There I was perusing the new 2022 Stinger's page on kia.com when I happened to scroll down and notice this lovely tidbit of info:

UVO link is currently unavailable in 2022 Stingers sold or purchased in Massachusetts. See the Kia Owners Portal for updates on availability.

Anyone have any idea as to why this is the case? Seems really odd.

Does Governor Baker hate Stingers or did Kia somehow algorithmically determine I'd diminish the brand by buying one? SMH...

looking at uvo link's terms of service.. looks like it's all 2022 vehicles with uvo link is unavailable if sold in massachusetts... i wonder if this is related to the law regarding anti-idling they've imposed.

They are punishing massholes? - , Just kidding... Buy it out of state and drive it back
LOL. That thought crossed my mind.

@vipeboy2000, I must admit I didn't even know about that law so that would totally make sense. Good catch! I would have figured California would do something like that too.

yea, i did look up some other brand literature for telematic remote systems such as ford/chevy/ even hyundai's bluelink and they don't have the stipulation,, "yet" it does seem that for kia that exception starts with 2022 model years as prior year vehicles with kia uvo link was sold there, so either they are working through state government to get it approved or we'll see more brands also coming out with exceptions for MA.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Here's why: g. co/kgs/rsCSXm

We asked for this. It goes into effect for 2022 MY vehicles, so the timing is perfect.
While wonderful for your neighborhood mechanic with the garage down the road, I said an unintended side effect would be that, instead of adapting and sharing proprietary data, companies would simply refuse to activate telematics for vehicles purchased and registered in the Commonwealth. I also figured model year 2022 was too soon for telematic systems to find a common communication language to provide the day and for a company to bring that system to market.

California does have the same law only you have to sign a contract and not give a repair shop the right to enter your electronics

It is very likely the same reason that Subaru has disabled their Starlink service in Massachusetts as well. It's due to the recent addition to the right-to-repair law that passed. Instead of actually complying with the law they just disabled all wireless telematics.
