Using Mobil Oil will void the Stinger engine warranty?

I looked up the Total Oil and it is some good stuff also. I have always used Mobil 1 myself but I will let the dealership use Total.

I got my first oil change today at 485 miles. I was reluctant as to if the dealership knew how to manage the correct oil for the vehicle. They told me it has to have synthetic and they use mobile one synthetic. It appears as not all dealerships have the same options and knowledge of how to properly maintenance the stinger.

yes, I have found that out.......the KIA motor company does not seem to communicate with their dealers with regard to what is what for the service of a KIA automobile.....that is not good.

All you (and the dealer) needs to do is RTFM and note that the oil is GF-4 or better. Mobil 1 exceeds that requirement.

After I drove the car for the first week, some 250 miles, took back to the dealership, dumped the oil and put in Royal Purple. The dealership principle (serious car collector /racer), said it was not an issue, and exceeds even Mobile 1 standards.

What does void the warranty or at least the 10/100k part, reverts to 5/60k is driving for Uber/Lyft. That’s in the manual.

I appreciate all the comments on my initial post. I have learned a few things about the dealerships of KIA. I will be getting my "free" oil change with my dealership and will bring my own Mobil One 5/30 oil with me. I do finally remember they said they use TOTAL oil for their oil changes but I wonder if they are going to change the oil correctly. I was the third Stinger they sold and I have concern that they really know what they are going making this first oil change of this car. They sure gave me some bogus information about the warrant by using any other oil other than their own....I get the feeling they have issues. Again, appreciate all the comments.
Personally, unless pressed for time, I change my own oil. I was a HUGE AMS fan (still am) but it's very costly and hard to find. AMS is one of the original - if not the original - maker of synthetic oils, which AMS originally designed for jet engines. Ran my 1993 Ford Probe on it exclusively for all 167k miles I drove that car, and drove it extremely hard! Zero issues (of course is was a Mazda engine, but I digress...).

Perhaps change your own oil a few times and learn more about the engine, check the oil for any impurities, particles, etc... a good way to feel comfortable about your car and learn a bit more.

Total Oil is top notch and not worse than mobile 1 so I dont see any reason to bring your own. My dealer uses total.

If a dealership service team told me a brand of oil would affect the warranty i’d question his high school diploma. That’s like saying shell gas will cancel a warranty because they use exxon. Please write an email to Kia corp with that guys name and make sure to copy the gm or owner there. Then find another dealer.

Notice the oil specs for the engines are NOT the same!! From the OM for 218 Stinger
Classification
Engine oil *1 *2 (drain and refill)
Recommends

Gasoline Engine
Lambda II 3.3 T-GDI
7.29 US qt. (6.9 l)
API SM/ILSAC GF-4 above/ SW-30 above

Theta II 2.0 T-GDI
6.02 US qt. (5.7 l)
ACEA C2 (or ABOVE)
I am not an oil expert but I think ACEA C2 does not equate GF-4 Any thoughts?

There seems to be a lot of confusion about when the first oil change needs to be performed. I called my dealership and they stated the first oil change should not be change until 5000 miles. Others on the forum say they change from anywhere between 250 and 2500 miles. Is there any bulletins from KIA Manufacturer stating the intervals to change the break-in oil that comes from the factory?

Wow, cool thread necromancy. Funny! That OP assertion by the dealer is the clearest case of BS ever. Kia says the oil viscosity recommendations, nothing more. You put the right weight in and keep it topped up, warranty GOOD. End of discussion.

Now, to the "necromancer":

Welcome to the forum. Your informal "introduction" is interesting. If you've cruised the threads on the subject you'll have already answered your question for yourself. But anyway: No, Kia does not say anything about changing oil beyond the 6K miles (one year) standard, and twice as often in "severe" driving conditions, which they list clearly enough. End of discussion (unless you want to talk about it more for fun :P).

I was told by the service manager of the KIA dealership I bought my Stinger from that I would void my warranty of the car if he was to put in Mobil One Synthetic 5-30 into it on my first oil change at the dealership. He said they do not use that oil. He said I could bring the oil (over 6 quarts) into their service and they would use it but any engine damage or failure associated with the oil would void the KIA warranty.....I have never heard of this policy and wondered if anyone else has.

Wow, you lot have some special dealers.

Kia specify the oil specs (not brand). As long as the oil in the car meets those specs, you're fine.

And even if it doesn't meet those specs, unless they can show/prove that it was the oil that caused the failure, your warranty is fine anyway.

Name and shame the dealership so that others know not to go there, and then find an alternative yourself. Don't encourage this sort of stupid behaviour by giving them your hard earned cash - they just want to use their own oil for the markup they're putting on it.

Glad our Aussie dealers at least know the correct grade, as stated in OM.
My KIA dealer uses Castrol which is recommended by FORD!

Moving another conversation to this thread. For the 3.3L, I'm trying to find clear evidence that Mobil 1 Synthetic meets the requirements. I don't care if I'm right or wrong but I think it would be good information for everyone. How to we know what API Latest (ILSAC) Latest when looking through oil data sheets? API SP?

Let’s just agree that no one’s warranty can be voided by a choice of oil. We have laws for a reason

Been discussed numerous times. Mobil 1 Synthetic 5-30 is good to go.

Still not an answer though... If API SP is the latest specification then it fits and we can prove that Mobil 1 works. I don't know why it wouldn't say that in the manual. Things change from year to year, so we can't just go with what was said in the past. Here it is from the API website.

Just BS... I use Royal Purple 5-30 and the Dealership owner has no issues with it. Since the 500 mile mark flushed oil and used it.

But it says exactly that. "API latest (ILSAC Latest) OR ACEA A5/B5 Full synthetic grade engine oil for 3.3 T-GDi"

One OR the other. It's at the bottom of your screenshot from the owner's manual.
