The 2022 has 2 usb ports, one in the front, 1 in the rear (also a single 12v in front & rear).

I know the front usb will work for a flash drive. What about rear? What if I want to leave flash drive plugged in and use android auto?

Pretty sure the rear is power only... Put all the tracks on you phone or better still use a streaming service... much better way

Hmmm.. What about a hub?

Well, that's a shame. I'm going to pick up a usb extension so as not to keep plugging unplugging cables in to the port.

Exactly what I do with my work and home computers, to sync a thumbdrive I use.

I got 7 usb ports on the front of my computer including 2 usb 3.0 gen 1 type A's and 1 usb C gen 2. Have yet to have a port go out. But if it does, replacement is a $20 part.

How cheap and easy it is to replace depends on the computer (or server), especially as they age and exact fit replacements grow scarce. If the computer has an available 5.25" or 3.5" bay, an aftermarket solution might work but depends on what header(s) are available on the motherboard.

All that said, having worked in managed services for the past 14 years and 20+ years overall IT experience, I can assure you that USB ports do indeed wear out with frequent insertion/removal of usb devices. I would hazard to say the breadth of my experience supporting laptops, desktop, servers, and IoT devices (switches, routers, NAS, etc) gives additional weight to my anecdotal experience versus most computer users.

I would wonder though what else is being plugged into the usb port in the car. If I'm plugging in my phone for android auto, everything I need is going over the cable and that cable stays connected the whole time its in the car. I only disconnect/reconnect the end going into the phone...

You're right. Easier and cheaper to replace a 8" cable than a port.

This is the front end of the pc, antec 1200 case from...... before 2010 I think.

The piece at the bottom I added a few years ago when upgrading to a board with usb 3.0 gen 2 headers. So far it's only been useful for external nvme ssd. There's something like 8 or 10 ports on the back, but they're a pain to get to - asus strix x570-e board.
