Just had my windows tinted and now the power tailgate wont close either by the remote button, the button next to the steering wheel or the button on the tailgate. It just beeps and does nothing as if something is in the way. I have made sure nothing is in the way, trunk is empty, just seems odd it started just after doing the tinting. Tried changing the settings to switch of power tailgate and then back on again but still the same problem, any ideas?

Probably something obvious...just hope its nothing to do with the tint

PS. I did do a search on the forum and didnt find anything similar

Thanks for the nhcowboy28, I have just tried that procedure several time, it does make the chime sound when I press the button and hold the tailgate switch. And I do close the tailgate manually afterwards and press the P button beforehand. But the problem still persists, will open but not close

Bummer. Dealer visit. Don’t mention it happened after the tint crew :)

SOLVED: Feel a bit silly but the solution was so simple. After some long searching and finding a post on the KIA forum, someone posted something on a KIA Sorento power tailgate and said they also struggled with the power tailgate and it was after leaving it open for a long time, probably something similar to a tinting. But the solution isnt to do the factory reset for tailgate by pressing any buttons or combination of buttons. But to just open the truck lid and then close it manually and that was it!! Because I had kept pushing the buttons, it would just confuse it, you supposed to not press ANY buttons and just close it manually and it sorts itself out. Apparently if the trunk lid is left open for a long time, it "forgets where it is" or in what state it is in, closing it manually just sorts it. Wasnt a complete waste of time cos in the search for the solution I figured out how to adjust the tailgate opening height as well which is handy cos I have had a few close calls with garage doors. The real BONUS is that I dont have to take it to KIA, what a hassle that would have been. Anyways thanks nhcowboy for the help. I got there eventually and learnt a bit more about my Stinger!!

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Interesting that it was something so simple. Don't have that issue on my GT Line. If mine won't shut, it's because I haven't eaten my porridge!

I know i am asking this 5 years later lol, but this is the only post that resonates with whats happening with my stinger. The powertail gate for me is not closing , its opening easily but when i close it with any button that is eligible to do so, it will make the noise that it wants to close but it still wont. i tried the reset and everything, nothing seems to work and i stumble on to your post. So i opened it again with the power tail gate button and closed it manually. Still the same. Anything else in particular you did that i am missing and this happen to me right after i got my tint replaced on my rear windscreen

Sounds similar to what I saw after replaced my battery. And from what I recall pressing and holding the close button on the hatch only sets the maximum height for the hatch to open.

If you're up for it, you can do a hard reset and pull the ground for the battery for a few seconds then reconnect it. I think as long as the hatch is fully open when the battery is disconnected, then you should be able to manually close it and once it hits that 1st detent of the latch it should auto close. After that the opening/closing should work with a single button press.
