This has to be one of the most hilarious recall letters I have ever seen. Toyota has no fix so "free of charge" they will disable my block heater. Ummm, does Toyota realize that it's the middle of winter and in Canada many people REQUIRE a block heater for their vehicle to start? I rarely use mine but if I did I think i'd take my chances on the "thermal event" as i'd rather have a vehicle that starts...

And why would I book an appointment and wait for a tech to "disable" my block heater? How about if i'm concerned I just don't use it until it can be replaced?

It also applies to every model dating back as far as 2003 as I guess if you had a 2003 Matrix they may have put a new block heater in it after 2016? Seems pretty damn unlikely but I guess they have to cover their butts. Still better than denial but wow, this one is pretty comical.

Hmmm... May cause "Thermal event".

Disable free of charge = cut the cord off with a pair of side cutters lol
LOL that's exactly what I was imagining.

Wouldn't want to say the "F" word and scare people! Kia's letters said that too for the HECU recall.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
A year or two after getting the accord, a recall came out for the battery sensor. This is the doohickey that attaches to the negative terminal to monitor electron flow in some manner. The problem was, honda cheaped and didn't seal the device adequately. In certain climates (northern), elements could get inside, ultimately resulting in a thermal event.

Thermal event, lol: a mental image of someone racing for the bathroom in their thermal underwear was my immediate reaction: oh, FIRE, of course.

So what about the $500 plus tax I paid to get the bloody thing installed????

They'll eventually replace it with a non-defective one free of charge but no point taking your vehicle there until they can do that.
