So....I tried to start it and the dash went absolutely berserk...every icon flashing, chimes going off, it went nuts. Then it died completely, and I do mean completely. Might be a dead battery, don't know. I need to have it towed but can not put the car in neutral. It will need to be lifted from the rear to put on a flat bed since it's in a parking spot.

I spoke with Kia and they told me there is a little square box on the side of the console, remove the cover over the box and I can manually put it in neutral. There is no square box. So now what?

Or do I even need to care - are the front wheels locked or free to move?

Please excuse my ignorance....

If it's awd, all wheels should be off the ground by some means before it's moved. As yours is awd, i'd expect at least the rear wheels to be locked, possibly front too (when in park).

The tow folks usually have special dollies for this purpose.

you can also do this with the electronic shifter as well. 1647372332278.webp

Oh geez, how could I have not seen that box. It's right there, in full view :/ And I guess I didn't dig deep enough into the owner's manual either. Maybe I should stick with less complicated cars LOL. Now I'm going to hope it really is just a dead battery...

THANK YOU GUYS!!

It’s simply your battery. Go buy another and swap it.
I hope you're right.

Might be a message....the reason I started it was to move it to wash it today and then decide by Friday if I'm going to sell it to carmax. Hard not to when it's paid off and the offer is almost what I paid for it. Might be the car telling me uh yeah, no, BAD idea LOL.

Not sure of the point you'll pay more for the replacement car. It's like when people get excited about their house increasing in value when it means nothing because if you sell it you have to buy another. Unless your selling this car and don't need to buy another or at least can wait till the market drops

Yeah of course I have another vehicle. It's an emotional vs. rational decision. I did the same thing with my 2008 Mustang Bullitt in 2012 when I was able to sell it for close to what I paid for it. It hurt but the net was I drove it for 4 years nearly for free, sans insurance. Never thought I'd see the day where I could do that with yet another car. It is the best road trip car I've ever owned though.

We'll see. AAA is coming tomorrow. Hopefully it's the battery, which btw is still under warranty for eight more weeks :)
