Okay, here it is! Since we're getting closer and closer to a launch every day - let's put together a list of dealers who are going to mark up the Stinger!

I don't have any definite names yet but there's at least one dealer in Florida who says the Stinger GT is going to be priced in the mid $50,000 range. So what does that mean exactly? Somewhere around $54k-$56k or so? Maybe a little higher?

As people post updates I'll create a list and edit it continually so we can see which dealerships need to be avoided.

Is that what the dealer "thinks" Kia is going to price it at?

Or they intend to set it there thinking it will come in under $50 grand?

I don't see anybody planning on marking up a Kia above msrp. My guess is they wanted to give themselves a bit of room to make sure the car doesn't end up being more expensive than expected, or they are just clueless.

i really hope that's the case. because if one dealer does it others will follow and that could delay me getting a decent deal.

For Kia to compete in this category its all about price. Neither Kia nor its dealer network can lose sight of that. If they do the Stinger could be doomed from the start.

I would be really disappointed if dealers do this. They initially need to get the Stinger brand established and respected. KIA needs to have disruptive pricing - not too low, but low enough to be enticing for folks to choose it over the comparable MB/Audi/BMW. They need the car to be out on the road and seen. Then as the years progress they can close the pricing gap if they have a product that supports it.
When I first came across the Stinger I was just starting my search for vehicles with a budget of $40K. As more information comes out on it, it makes me willing to stretch to get the 3.3L. But I can't stretch to the mid 50s. If I had that kind of money, there would be a whole slew of other options I would investigate.

I really hope that would be near but not over 50 as in Puerto Rico we have to include maritime carrier plus additional taxes !!!

@Colleen Simpson I completely agree. If the pricing gets to be too expensive, I will have reconsider the Audi S5 Sportback.

The great thing Kia has going for it is the ability to bring a quality vehicle for a nice price. I want this car to be successful as it will require other upmarket carmakers to reconsider how they price cars.

I understand that Kia is a business and needs to keep the lights on and if the Stinger is as good as it looks on paper, this could be a volume seller for them.

I found an interesting article on profits made from vehicles, Porsche makes around $17k in profits.

https://www.autoblog.com/amp/2017/03/21/porsche-17250-profit-per-car/

If $17,250 sounds like a lot, well, it is, especially considering that German competitors Mercedes and BMW clear around $5,000 per car. Also, considering there a lot of cars you could buy new with a Porsche's profit alone - from a Ford Fiesta to a Chevy Sonic, in some cases with cash left over.

It's the kind of cash-cow status that rivals what Detroit automakers pull down for pickups and SUVs. By some calculations, Ford clears from $10,000 to more than $13,000 per F-150 - the most tricked-out version of which still sells for a lot less than a Panamera.

By corporate average, Toyota has generally been the leader at around $2,800 per car.

It'd be interesting to see how much Kia makes in profits and how much it expects to make off the Stinger specifically.

Is there any possibility or way that Kia can demand dealers don't do a markup? I'm thinking no. Some dealers might be stupid enough to do this.

Any markup on these cars will be just to keep a halo car in the showroom until they get the volume they need to make deals and actually sell them. As much as I love this car, no way will I pay anything more than invoice. Can't imagine an enthusiast so captivated they would pay more than a similar equipped Infiniti/BMW.

I'm so pissed! I went to look at a stinger GT Just a regular GT nothing more the GT2 is just to much for me. They had a markup of 10k for the 2.0T from 32k to 42k . I own a 2.0T sonata and I would NEVER pay 42k for a 2.0T Kia. The Optima SX 2.0t would never touch 42k even fully loaded! I then saw a GT mark up from 5-9k for just a simple GT!
I told them why doesn't this dealer or that car have "market adjustment"
"Oh everything is going up in price everything is getting more expensive"
39k is pretty damn expensive 47k isn't any better. Considering these cars lose all their value after 2 years.
My plan is a 18 mustang GT at 39k for now on. Never going to any Kia dealer again.

Assuming you're interested and not going to waste his time, just reply with "Well, let's see if we can get this price where it needs to be." Once he knows you'll negotiate, most of that markup will come off.

I totally agree with you. Here in AZ most are doing a $4k market adjustment. I had to hunt to find a dealer who would let me drive the thing. I then had email negotiations with multiple dealers. Ended up getting the GT2 about $1k under INVOICE ($46k with destination) and got KBB for my Optima with 80k miles. Wait it out, or set a price you’ll make a deal on and negotiate. Most of the dealers, when I said I won’t even pay MSRP, and reminded them there aren’t many people willing to drop $50k on a first run Kia, dropped the market adjustment almost immediately.

I saw someone said there's dealer markup as high as $15k. are they insane?

a fully loaded BMW 540i Xdrive can be bought with 7%~12% off MSRP (@12% off = $68640)
a fully loaded KIA Stinger $52300 + $15k = $67300

you have to be stupid to even want to get a KIA over a BMW with $15k markup on the KIA

While we were at the dealership today here in Kirkland WA finalizing our order, 2 other Stingers were sold--a GT1 & GT2. Based on all the internet stalking of local area dealers we'd been doing as research, they seem to be selling at a brisk pace around here. But no dealer in the greater Seattle Metro area appears to be marking up prices...so far...

Welcome aboard, @Furia! Thank you for signing up. Hopefully nobody spent MSRP plus $15k for their Stinger. I doubt anyone did. But I'm not surprised somebody tried to sell one for that high a price. I mean - they can TRY all they want. I just don't see it happening. And if I'm not mistaken, those days are either over - or quickly coming to an end. Most people are getting their Stingers for under MSRP now...

Yes, the price gouging practice is slowly coming to an end... Thankfully...

Rufas I was one of the other purchasers of a Stinger at that dealer, and they did mark the car up $1000 over MSRP. Kind of a bummer, but of course supply and demand. And my wife really wanted a new Stinger. I noticed a dealer in portland still has their Stingers marked up $5000 over MSRP.
