I just came back from a testdrive of the stinger and I still can't believe how good it was. WOW!
Test drove the GT2 Limited AWD

Test drive was good 30min through a combination of highway, nice long winding road up a mountain, and general rural type driving.

Positive impressions from the test drive:
1)surprised how stable and planted the car felt overall. Took the car through the long winding curve up the mountain and it was like it was on rails. I don't drive very fast regularly so I wasn't sure how fast I can take the curve but I felt the car was well within its limits/capabilities.

2) Plenty of power. I did get a chance to open it up from 0 and it was all smiles in the car. This was done with 3 adults in the car and it was blazing quick.

3) Quiet and nice interior. The test car was black on black and it was very nice both in looks and touch. I was bit surprised in how quiet it was. The enhanced sound feeding through the system I think will get bit tiring but I did switch it to minimal and it did quiet down to a level where i think i can live with. However when it was on enhanced level, I did not mind the sound at all, it sounded good to my ears.

Negatives impressions:
1)transmission I thought was a bit "undecided". I felt like it didn't sometimes know where to put the gears into according to the driving style/rpm level. This could be due to the fact it was a test driven car or what. But I did notice that in sports mode it did hold the gears for very long. It did eventually upshift but I thought it was very good that it allowed you to rev up to what it did. Shifts were very quick and most of time i didn't feel it shifting.

2)i couldn't notice any difference in suspension when going from comfort to sport. Related to this is that the suspension setting even in sports wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. This would be a plus for me as I'm not looking for a hard riding daily car. I thought I would be able to feel the difference but was not able to.

3) rear visibility out is pretty small. Seems like a small window to be looking out however I realize there are loads of safety features to help with this.

Overall I'm thoroughly impressed with the test drive and how it was.

Getting to the OPs question, for me it was the bigger rear leg room and versatility of a hatch that pushed me wanting a stinger. Looks are subjective so not taking that into consideration of the decision.

Cheers

Welcome back, @convotutor! Haven't seen you in a while. Thank you for this review! I'm glad you go to take a good, long test drive. One thing about the transmission is it adapts to the driver's habits. When you're taking out a Stinger that's been test driven by different people, the transmission isn't set on one driving style yet - and that can make things a little bit unpredictable... I'm sure that would smooth out over a short period of time with the same driver. :)

Well, for me it took one test drive and I was sold and signed that day. Seems like you're pretty close to that.

What other car(s) are you considering?

Just an FYI the AWD only goes 140 mph they are limited due to KIA trier selection.

I have noticed quite a few times, while in Sport, that the RPMs can sit for long periods of time in the 4k range. I thought there was an issue with the transmission, but I'm sure this is by design. If you're in Sport mode and racing, you'll want those high ranges. If you drive the Stinger the same way in Comfort or Eco...it doesn't hang out at high RPM.

Seeings how this is a GT, if you were on the track, I could see you wanting these type of RPMs for turns.

Even if it was limited in speed, I would never be going at 140mph for any reason given this will be a daily driver :)
Cool to each their own. I bet when I trade it in I will be able to count how many times it has been 140mph. I do enjoy speeds around 115 mph when conditions allow.
