I own a 22 Stinger GT2 (V6). On cold starts has any heard a tapping sound for about ep seconds after start up? Does not sound good.

common question on most new cars with direct fuel injection, the high pressure fuel pump will make loud tapping (almost diesel like) sound at startup for about 10-15 seconds before quieting down to a still audible tapping sound if you are outside or have the windows open.

Welcome! Just letting you know that I moved your topic out of the community lounge and placed it into the main Stinger forum. I also updated the topic title so people know what the discussion is about...

As long as the louder engine noises on startup go away in less than a minute (along with dropping rpms) they are normal operation noises.

I love the ticking sound.

they are probably similar loudness between brands... but money lol... we get a slip on foam piece over the pump while lexus puts a solid 2 piece plastic piece that completely encloses the pump with insulation inside and that was after complaints and customers bringing cars back to the dealer that they updated the cover for the pump.

ive had 3 di cars before this and they have been way way way quieter on cold start ,i think our cars have a solid lifter/tapped that runs the pump and thats why its so loud at start ...but did you also notice that below 30 degrees cold start its super quiet ? weird

That might because below 30 theexhaust valves are open on a cold start. You can hear them close as the RPMs start to drop.

This is the best explanation of what is going on here. I can attest this is the cause. Hope this helps Thomas f benjamin!

There is no salt.... Lol.

Sodium is a METAL.
Without chloride, you ain't got no salt.

Also, sodium cooled valves do not make any sounds
