Hello from Perth, Australia!

I picked up my brand new black 2020 GT last week and was extremely disappointed with how the paint looked fresh off the dealer floor. Pointed it out to the sales guys on the night I picked it up and they pretty much told me that it’s normal and I was lucky as the blue stingers were worse. They also convinced me that it would look absolutely fine under sunlight.

Checked it the next day under the sun and the swirls all over the car were noticeable from a distance and the rear of the car had holograms. I reported it to the dealer and unfortunately they just couldn’t help. They told me to raise it with Kia...

I felt ashamed driving around my pride and joy and had the car professionally paint corrected and protected a day later. Now it looks absolutely gorgeous!!!

Has anyone else experienced this? It’s just such a disappointment having to spend $$$ paint correcting a brand new car off the showroom floor

Every car from every dealer looks like shot because the heathens that “detail” the cars reuse towels and don’t clean their RO pads.

1) never let them touch it again for any reason.
2) hand wash you car going forward (or true touch less at minimum)
3) buy a RO, set of different pads, clear safe compound, and different stage polishes. Fix it yourself. (Or pay someone to do these things)
4) then pay someone to ceramic coat her.

Thanks mate. Lesson learnt!

The paint protection was a ceramic coat and I’m really pleased with the results.

Kia seems to not care about paint quality. I got mine back in June and immediately had to paint correct and ceramic coat. During the process, I found fuzz, gravel and a freakin EYELASH in my clearcoat. They're still arguing over the authenticity of it without trying to look at my car.

Welcome to the forum Jayz. I had the same problem. No holograms but plenty of swirls. I advised the dealer and he also said that it was normal. Amazing they don't charge extra for them. Black is probably the most noticeable colour for swirls too.

Hi, and welcome. What is a "hologram" vis-a-vis paint (clearcoat)? Swirls, I know about that.

Poor new car prep is legendary on the forum. So, you are not alone by any stretch, if that makes any positive difference in your day.

a black stinger is a gift and a curse. The paint when clean and polished looks absolutely gorgeous. It's such a deep dark black and the metallic flake makes it look incredible. But it scratches and swirls SO easily. It's a nightmare for someone who is as anal as I am about the appearance of his or her car.

I have polished and ceramic coated the car which made it look pretty good. Not perfect as there are still some swirls in sunlight. But when I wash the car, I use a leaf blower to get the bulk of the water off. With the ceramic coating, it just slides right off. That way, I only use the towel to get the last 10% of the water off. And I never touch the hood with a towel; leaf blower only, since its the spot that shows swirls the most. I'm probably keeping my stinger for a long time, so the struggle will continue, but I will never buy another black car.

Thanks mate. I tried to attached a video to show the condition of the paint and the holograms but seems like I can only attach photos.

I’m so glad I ceramic coated the car now. After reading a few articles re black paint, I feel it’s the best single thing I’ve done to the car

The longer a car sits on the dealer lot the more shit washes it goes through. Especially in an area that gets snow like the NE US (can you imagine how they push the snow off the cars!!). Mine is black and wasn't all that bad but still some swirls. Finally corrected the hood front fenders and bumpers this past weekend - What a diff. Waiting for the right weather conditions to add the Avalon King Ceramic Coat and correct the balance

My car was brutal from the dealer, paint corrected, ceramic coated, two years later still gorgeous still black still beautiful, a ton of work to maintain

Howdy Jayz good idea to go the paint protection route, a few here have had bad swirls etc on their new stinger. Im glad you found a solution as i have read a few such storeys. As said previously the dealer heathens seem to wash these cars with brillo pads. Look into getting PPF protection for the front to as this will minimise small marks.

Ps. You'll be washing that colour once a week pretty much like me. Lol.

FROM UK. PICKED UP 3008 PEUGEOT THIS week. Brand new. Terrible swirls showing up in sun. Salesman blamed paint. From all read these issues down to poor quality work at dealership. I intend following up with dealer. Not sure what the law is in many foreign countries but dealer in UK should be prepared to try and remedy.
