Hello to all,

I was wondering if anyone knows if the stinger will throw any codes for the adjustable suspension and what they might be?

Thanks for any help.

Bump.

Revised Question.

Does anyone know anything about the factory suspension on a 2018 Stinger GT2?

Multi link rear and Mcpherson front.
Adaptive dampers.

The only error I have seen reported on the dash is "Check electronic suspension"
I had this error VERY early on. - the ECS ECU was replaced in my case.

Further checking with a scan tool, there should be codes - but I have never had the pleasure of diagnosing any.

With a good scan tool, you are able to see lots of live data, such as amperage per damper (which I found interesting).

I made a short vid 4 years ago - when I was playing around with it (and the ECS10 controller)

There are 5 main items (10 if you count them individually)
  1. x 1
  2. x 2
  3. x 2
  4. x 2
  5. x 3

Good to know.

Thanks for sharing that.

The problems I have are the rear is too soft and bouncy. I know because my last 2018 GT2 was much different than this one. And the rears on my last Stinger were starting to leak as well. This new to me car has 50,000 less miles and the factory rear struts are plugged in and are not leaking. Also, the firmness adjustment does nothing at all. I get no error messages in the dash, and my code reader(s) do not read any of the Stinger specific suspension information. I wonder what my next diagnostic move might be?

Has anyone heard of any such behavior with the factory suspension? I have heard that some have leaked while still under warranty, but that is all.

What sort of code readers is everyone using and what things (especially live data about the suspension) do they show?

Thinking of just replacing them with aftermarket, but maybe I am getting old and like the ride/performance compromise of the factory setup.

edit: not old, just spoiled by the comfort.

Thanks for any help you can throw this way!

Are you saying, when you switch from comfort to sport mode, there is no changes in the rear suspension?

What about the front?

The one used in post #4, is far too expensive for the average home gamer (though it would be nice).

It's an Autel maxisys elite -and it can read EVERYTHING.

I am told this home gamer version can as well (but I have never tried)
MaxiAP AP200 looks promising - I would look into this one further.

If I were you, I would consider a Mando ECS10 Electronic Suspension Tuning Module, and adjust your rear suspension to your liking.

I purchased a $1200 tablet system, (I think it might have been that brand or not) awhile back it was supposed to have full key functionality and that was the main reason I bought it. Turned out it did have full key functionality including the ability to change the code on the ecu and write codes to new blank keys. Only problem was that it did not support the Stinger. Wah wah wah

I returned it for a refund within the thirty days.

While it is true I may be a home gamer at this time. I have worked in a few shops over the years and I fix anything and everything that I cross paths with, even things I am told cannot be fixed. I especially love it when things say no user serviceable parts inside. That practically guarantees I will open it up.

"I just don't think you know who you're dealing with."

I feel like I heard that in a movie, can't remember which one anymore.

I am more of a Semi-pro.

But more like old school when working on my red dragon:

I can't really say if the firmness setting does anything to the front, my gut tells me no there is no change at all when changed. I will have to see what I can tell next time I am hot lapping it. I have thought about getting that ecs-10, I just wonder if it will work on my car in the state it is currently in. Wish I had someone close by to check functionality before I buy one.

Maybe I can start saving empties and buy myself a full function scanner/tablet someday.

One thing you could try, is to disconnect one of the rear dampers electrical connector.

See if that sets, or does not set any codes!

I have not tried that myself, but it should be easy enough to do.

I have over 130,000 km on my 2018 Stinger, And I am happy to report that the electronic dampers perform approximately as good as day one.

Update.

Yes, the front definitely is firm. It is quite the odd combo and definitely does not inspire confidence in the handling! Then after I got home, I realized that I didn't check to see if the front got soft when I switched it there, I only drive in sport mode. I don't like the way the car drives in any other mode. I sometimes feel that it would be nice to have something between sport and comfort, but I can never decide on what to change (lower) in custom, so I stick with sport all the time. If I am super light on the pedal, I still have the ability to (more) slowly accelerate.

It is very hot where I live right now, so it may be a bit before I decide to unhook a shock to see what that does or does not do.

Without the ECS10 tuner, there are only 2 suspension settings.

I meant that I can't decide on any settings engine, trans etc. to lower in custom, so I never use it.

Thinking maybe the ecs10 tuner would be something I would like to have. gonna put it on my wish list.
