Hello, first post...looking at buying a new Stinger. This may seem stupid to some, but for me it would be a dealbreaker. I noticed this on a test drive but did not mess with the buttons much so wanted to check. It seemed that any time I wanted to just 'tilt' up the sunroof, the sunshade would automatically open all the way. No way to stop it. I drive every day with the sunroof tilted up for air flow (and looks), but due to a skin condition, need to keep the sunshade closed (or just cracked). I have never seen this be an issue before in any car. So that is my question....can you tilt up the Stinger's sunroof WITHOUT having to have the sunshade open? Or, is there any sort of manual control for the sunshade?

Thank you.

No. It's just as you've described. Even with the roof tilted with the sunshade closed, I'd say that the air flow/venting would be compromised anyway. Too bad that'll be a deal breaker you'll be passing on one helluva vehicle.

Yes! A real shame. @stinger541 might I suggest you tint your sunroof? Maybe a 5% ceramic tint with 99% UV protection? Just a thought. Don't want you missing out on this awesome car due to a workable issue.

Yes, with the sunshade closed, there wouldn't be much if any air circulation anyway. Tinting is the answer.

Thank you all. My state does not allow you to tint even the sunroof past 30%. You will not pass inspection. They actually test all windows now with light meters. Due to this, no reputable tinting place will do it either. I usually crack the sunshade just a bit, regardless the UV, I cannot have the heat of the sun beating down either. Cooled seats could help BUT the 2.0 Premium does not come with them, sadly.

So I guess the Stinger is out for me. Really frustrating to me that Kia would do that. I do not get what they were thinking. From what I have been reading by you guys, the MPG is horrible anyway so I guess I am saving some money that way. I drive a lot (like 20k to 25k/year), so these issues are really important for myself and my family. Thank you for the answers.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
CRAZY! What state checks the sunroof for tint? All cars with NO sunroof have 100% tint. Can't believe that.

It is just like SUVs....they can have super blacked out windows but cars must be max 30% all around. Makes no sense. I have been stopped before for a tint check even though I was just above the 30%. Officer pulled out light meter, tested, sent me on my way. I like in other states with the blacked out tinting, looks really good on white cars.

I think I'd risk a ticket and fight that in court. What the hell is the difference. If the shade is closed, the "tint" is also 100%. You have some really stupid politicians.

Buy the entry 2.0 and have a Custom sunroof or moonroof installed that tilts open the way you want it to. The money you save on the entry 2.0 over the Premium 2.0 will pay for the above.
