Sorry in advance if this is the wrong sub-forum, mods please move to correct place if so...still getting my bearings of this place.

So I recently got the Borla S-Type cat back exhaust put on my 2020 Stinger GT1 RWD and am LOVING the sounds. Last weekend, I put on the K&N Typhoon intakes and I swear it sounds even better, and deeper, and now I'm getting those pops and burbles I have been craving....HOWEVER, my traction on launch has gone to absolute dog shit lol. I was showing a buddy of mine the launch control and my car had less than 0 traction from launch all the way through 3rd gear it felt like. 0-60 felt significantly slower due to the ass end just completely letting go and wanting to slide out from under me, but once it hooked, it was gone.

Question is...are the Pro Sport 4s all that good once you start actually doing work to the car? They were fine stock, but with just intakes and exhaust, sport mode is pretty much useless because I can't grip the road to save my life. I am currently running the stock staggered setup with 235/35/19R up front with 255/35/19R in the rear. I have a race chip on standby and new spark plugs on the way so I really want to be able to drive the car again if you know what I mean...

Plus....trying to send it around a slow car on the highway is almost impossible right now due to the absolute lack of traction especially in sport mode. I only have about 3000 miles on the car and I run 93 octane daily.

Thanks in advance...

p.s. - If different tires widths are suggested in the rear, any pointers on rims would be great too - this is my first car I actually care about enough to put the time and effort into.

You are losing traction going down the highway? Are your tires bald?

Nope.....plenty of tread. Kinda am wondering if it's from the cold we've been getting here lately - I'm used to 70+ this time of year....it's been low 40s lately. Tires don't seem to be warming up worth a damn even after 30+ minutes of driving at 80+ on a highway.

The cold won't help you out, that's for sure.

Wider tires will help, probably best to get advice from someone with RWD though. I have not heard of anyone complainig about traction on the highway.

Yeah, in sport mode it can be pretty easy to break the tires loose. Comfort takes a bit of intent, but still pretty easy. Seems the tuning of the nannies is tailored more towards their testing and modeling of the performance than the what's happening real-time with the tires. The small turbos build boost very quickly, which causes a major spike in torque very quickly, which will easily break the tires loose. It's a feature.

This just means you're in control - not the computers. You gotta train your right foot how to get the most out of the car without sending it into a ditch. Well, the nannies mostly keep you out of the ditch, but they let you embarrass yourself for a second or two before stepping in.

The PS4s aren't bad. Most folks consider them one of the best. So switching tires probably won't change anything. And yeah, cold tires won't grab worth a damn. And it's very hard to get them to warm up in cold weather unless you're on a track or doing donuts.

I went through exactly what you are going through now earlier this fall. The PS4 tires are terrific. Yes Toyo R888 or the like would be better but that isn’t the problem.

The problem is temperature. The PS4 tires are summer only tires and they mean that. Once temperatures approach 40 degrees F the tires get really hard and lose virtually all of their grip.

You can try to heat them up but they actually cool down rather quickly. For instance if you try to launch the car and spin the tires they will heat up somewhat. However, if you drive a few miles at speed after that they will go right back to being slippery rocks.

The trick is that you have to legitimately heat them up immediately before you do your launch for real.

What works for me is to put it in launch mode and hold launch mode for a second or two and then let off the brake hard. Then hold the spin as long as you can without putting it in the ditch. Then stop immediately and do it again.

Then on the 3rd try leave traction and Stability control off but don’t engage launch control mode. Just use auto hold and mash the gas from a dig. It should hook up then and give you a decent launch even in the cold.

My best best time using this method was 4.37 0-60 mph. However, I am basically still stock. Just airscoop snorkels and a drop in panel filter. Everything else stock for a 2019 GT2.

PS4s are Summer tires. Below 50 they start struggling to grip. Below 40 they're almost useless.
This is why I went with All-seasons. Ultimate warm dry grip is a bit lower but other mods can help with that, but I can still hammer it at most rolling speeds at least, even in the cold, and the car will for the most part get going without fuss. Now, once you throw that RaceChip on, traction on launch will always be something to keep in mind on a RWD Stinger. I have yet to launch since installing my JB4 but I'd imagine my tires would protest such a move a lot.

Thank you everyone for the advice - I am new to this so I honestly didn't know the PS4s are summer tires, but that explains a lot. From the sounds of it, I need to look into all-seasons...and just simply learn the car more as I keep giving it more power. Been a fun journey so far, and look forward to many more years with this car so I appreciate the knowledge you guys are giving out here.

Had not seen that one before. But it sounds like all of those 'tuning chips' you can find on ebay. It even sounds a little ambiguous on the link you sent me. It kinda seems like one of those throttle controllers (one of which I have installed in my car, but do not use it any longer). Good luck with your traction problem.

Where do you plug that device in? That will tell you a lot about how it works. If you plug it into your accelerator pedal then it certainly isn’t worth $500.
Race chip is a piggy back tuner, similar to the Lap3, that only plugs into the MAP/TMAP sensors. Race chip also offers a pedal tuner, but that's a separate product. There are reviews on here.

I was able to achieve a 4.27 0-60 mph with RWD and without Launch Control in Temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Now this was slightly downhill so it was not valid to upload but it does show that fast 0-60 mph times can be achieved even with the stock tires on a RWD untuned car.

I also did a 1/4 mile run where I exceeded 111 mph without a tune. That is FAR faster than a truly stock RWD Stinger GT2 could ever do. The AirScoops snorkels really help there. That is basically the only modification I have done.

It is really impressive what this car is capable of with just $150 of modifications.

I would recommend you, like some other mention, ultra high performance all season such as the Pilot Sport A/S 3+ and wider ones such as 235/245 up front and 275/285 in the rear. The wider tire will also compensate the reduce contact area of the all season to keep good performance in summer.

Tires are expensive and seem like you enjoy driving your car hard so you should wait for the Pilot 4 to be worned out which should be fast anyway ;)

Awesome, that gives me some ideas now :D I'll have to look into some staggered wheels that'll fit those tires so I'll hit up the local shop down the street and see what deals he can get me.
