Press Release

News is a couple days old. The internal combustion STI is no more, apparently to return with the NEXT generation (7ish years?) as an EV.

While I never personally owned an STI, I know what that platform has meant to the enthusiast community. While not a direct competitor to the Stinger, competition is always good from a buyer's perspective.

Oh for sure. Caught me by surprise if only because Subaru just released the "all new" 2022 WRX, think most folks were awaiting the STI version on this latest engine.

Yes Subaru is dead to me now. I've had a 2.5 rs coupe, wrx and sti. I was actually looking forward to also buying the new sti in 2023. It was rumored to have 400 hp.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I had the Wrx on my short list of cars I'd consider buying back in 2020 before I bought the Stinger. For what it is, I felt it was overpriced. The one I was looking at was 33k new back then and I felt the interior was super cheap, like my 2007 Grand Prix interior cheap. Stinger only cost me 3 grand more. Nicer interior, more hp, longer warranty and a vehicle that you don't see a dime a dozen of. I feel like that car should be 30k max for the sti.

Outdated car/engine imo.
Understatement to say the least, garbage interior paired with multiple motors that where completely garbage and a mostly garbage community (Don't get me wrong, their are some amazing Subaru's and Subaru people out there, but for every 1 good one, their was at least 10 bad ones)

With the announcement of the next STI being electric, it just shows that Subaru finally decided that they wanted to make an actually quick AND reliable STI, which I am all for, as right now, the most reliable, and fastest Subaru's out there don't use Subaru motors/drivetrains lol

Most of the Subarus have mediocre at best interiors. They're of the 'rugged' ethos, so usually hard and durable materials. They've only softened this a bit with their largest SUV and upper trim Outbacks.

IMO Subaru on a whole have lost any advantage they once had in the market, being affordable AWD vehicles. There's a lot of decent AWD vehicles now that cost as much or just a bit more, but usually offer nicer materials and drivetrains. Subarus are also not any more/less reliable than most auto makers nowadays, so the trope about them being "reliable" is just ingrained thinking not represented on any of the metrics. [worth adding - the gap between most reliable and middle of the road reliable is fairly narrow nowadays, so most cars are "reliable" is my point] I remember when their marketing went from "we're rugged/cool" to "we like dogs and you love our cars". It said volumes to me at the time about where they were now positioned, and that hasn't changed in over a decade. Losing the STi is just another step in the same growing irrelevant direction.

I recently drove in a friend's base 2021 Forester and, absolutely not lying, I asked them if this was the 2010 model. Cheap certainly describes it, outdated is probably more apt.

In our household we've had a Baja [turbo], 2xForester, and Impreza. I'm very familiar.

My wifes car is a 2020 Suby Outback Onyx XT. Good car and really great in the snow, but I made sure the head gasket issues were long behind Subaru BC those damn head gaskets were blowing for quite a few years before the problem got addressed....way too long. I knew of several people who had significant issue and costs associated...the newer 2.4T was never affected like the old 2.5 was.

I am pretty happy with the car so far, 1.5 years into ownership.

I haven't sat in a newer subaru, but those I looked at in 2018/2019 all had one major issue with ergonomics. The head rest seemed to push my head too far forward and angle wasn't just adjustable. This was notable in a number of models (probably use the same/similar ergonomics design).

2020 was a complete redesign for the Outback, It's pretty comfy actually. My wife know NOTHING about cars, she still be driving her 2003 Jeep Liberty if It wasn't for me- what a POS that was!
