Hello everyone, just wondering is the sea quality and paint quality and isolated issue with the Stinger. And does anyone know if Kia has had seat and paint quality problems with their other vehicles. Also, a question to the owners how does vehicle quality compared to other Kia's or other similar vehicles?
I am winding down my car research and only a few months away from purchasing but now I'm distraught to hear the pain quality and see quality issue. I hope this is a isolated to maybe a certain batch of vehicles or at least a change in 2019 model.

Paint and seat on mine are excellent. I think we only hear of a very few complaints, not the overall quality.

I traded a 2017 Optima SXL for the Stinger. The Optima had quite a few more features than the Stinger (panorama roof, 360 camera, quilted Nappa leather, wireless charger, etc). I haven't read anything about the paint or seats over on the Optima forum. Overall I never had any issues with the SXL.

I also owned a 2012 Optima EX 6 years ago. Like the SXL I never had any issues with it.

As for my Stinger the only issues I've had is the trunk rattle, which I fixed in 30 seconds and a surging when using the cruise control. Paint and seats have been fine.

No quality issues here, paint is excellent and seats look and feel great - my only issue so far is excessive heat in the console wireless charger compartment when the rear compartment heating is engaged, which seems to be more of a design issue than defective manufacture.

As for other Kia vehicles, my brother has a base Rio (close to the bottom of the food chain in the Kia lineup) - for the past 5 years he's put on a larger than average amount of KMs and basically beaten it like a rented mule. Car still looks great, runs perfect and has zero squeaks/rattles/ mechanical issues.

Kia as a manufacturer has been at the top of the quality charts for some time now, which was a major factor in my decision to buy this car.

Yes because I learned 1 year ago they have been a top of the quality charts is the only I started looking in the KIA direction.
That's just the reason I am confused on the seats and paint. These are items used across the line. Why issues now with the Stinger and not optima, cadenza, K900, and others?

I have been very happy with multiple Kia vehicles, starting with a 2011 Sorento, replaced with a 2015 when totaled by a DUI, and my ex's 2011 Soul. They've had what I consider "normal" issues here and there, but nothing that would ever have me rule out future purchases. The "good" thing to consider about the seat issue is that it is showing up early, so it can be addressed under warranty.

I probably sound like a broken record but the only reason I'm not driving a Stinger is because I can't get the color and option combination I want.

What combo are you hoping for. I want GT2 RWD deep chroma blue/red or black nappa, or micro blue/red or black nappa.

I appreciate everyone's replys. I may have gotten caught up in the horrible seat and paint post ( being a car lover I wish you all the best that have these horrible issues). Realistically out of the thousands of stingers that Kia is selling I should not let a hand full or so of these issues cause me not to purchase. No other car with in my price range does it for me like the Stinger. BACK ON THE STINGER TRAIN!

Had a KIA Sorento and their flagship K900 before my Stinger had no issues. I know a few people who went for the “higher brands” have a few issues, with that said any new or used car you buy may come with some type of problem no matter the “brand”.

micro blue/red, with the 360º cameras

One thing I’ve learned about forums is that you will get “it’s the greatest” and “it’s the worst” comments. But you will find some people grounded in reality. I’ve had a 80k Porsche Cayenne that had its own quirks, the first 3 series tt and I paid bmw $2k to take it back! An Infiniti G37 that was the love of my automobile life lol. Bottom line is overall quality has been good, at least for my 1st 1k miles. I like the seats, the paint seems to be good quality (panthera metal) no creaks or rattles. The tech is nice, touchscreen on the Navi is good (I actually like the graphics for the Navi) but Only time and miles will tell if it will be rock solid like my g37. The build quality seems solid so far. It’s a machine, anything can go wrong but at least your backed by a helluva warranty

It is more than a machine, it is almost a freakin robot - the amount of technology that's in the car is truly state-of-the art. The GT@ trim has just about everything that the industry has to offer. All for about 1/2 the price of comparable car. Hard to beat that IMHO.

I'm one of the people who is complaining about paint chips on the hood and by God you should still get this car. It's so much fun and has such great technology in the DriveWise package.

I have a case open with Kia to see if my paint chips are under warranty ( I doubt they'll pay for it). I got a Sorento the same day I got my Stinger and we drove the Sorento all over Vermont one weekend and not one paint chip. So is it the Stinger? Not sure, but even with that "issue" it's an excellent car, and I'm coming from a 3-series.

5000 miles on mine (bought in December), no chips, annoying squeaks/rattles, and seat quality is superb so far. I know I've been hit with a few rocks on my morning commute, but paint finish is still looking flawless as far as I can tell.

Even if there were some minor issues, I'd likely overlook them as this car is an an absolute blast and is worth it anyway (I came from a Audi S5).

no issues with paint and no rattles. seats are great, just plain love the car. like others on the forum have stated, have owned cars 10's of thousands more with a shopping list of problems. some were kept at the dealer for so long, that i wanted to buy the loaner car.

What were your prior makes?

bmw m5's, couple of amg, the odd porsche (those were the problem cars. spent more time at the dealer than in my garage) the odd vette/camaro/mustang. a really odd audi s8 that i wanted to love. wanted being the key word.

i haven't had any major issues with the paint (although i put on a clear front 3M bra right away). the rattle is minor annoyance that dealer/kia can't seem to fix, but i have with two felt/rubber pads. Only other complaint is is the seat scuffing, which was cause by having the seat too forward, after i moved it back it has been okay.

No major issues with mine either. I have one paint defect on right rear pax door...appears to be a few parts of dust under the paint. Will bring it up during first oil change to see what they say. Other "issues" are as follows:
- Rubber/foam sealing strip between trunk and rear glass "squeezing" out on both sides
- Hood reveal (gap) is uneven - favors one side over the other by about 1/8-1/4 inch
- Rear view mirror seems "loose"
- Seat subwoofers not working any longer (prob loose wires since they worked initially)
- Mirrors fold at uneven rate (mostly likely a weak motor)

Again, all minor issues in my opinion and nothing to detract from the overall car.

Get underneath the car and you can start to see where some money was saved with regard to the other "luxury" brands. Wheel liners, under paneling, etc, all seem of inferior quality compared to past BMW M cars i have owned. Use of many plastic push rivets instead of screws, lack of sound dampening in trunk and under rear seat. Again, these are things MOST people would never see or care about.

I am very pleased with the car so far.

If Kia would allow users to access the canbus and associated functions would be great. For instance, i cannot manually aim the headlights on my GT2 with LED and that drives me nuts. They are pointed too low and i have to make a trip to dealer so they can "code" them higher.

Again, minor issues all around.

No issues here other than the hatch rattle.
