I know that there is another member here ho has started a registry, I just can't seem to find it. I just got off the phone with kia n.a. headquarters in Cali, they are checking on what number combinations constitutes the limited, chroma red, micro blue, etc. I know that the other members has shown that having a 5 in the sixth place of your Vin constitutes a great level (I think) but I wanted to know if they had them numbered from kia to show which are the limited . Will post when they get back to me.

I started a thread in my regional forum for members to register for each state. You could do the same, I noticed Sal wanted to know Florida members maybe you could set some thing up. A 50 state members thread would be a biggie tho. It’s a shame we can’t do searches for members by location.

I am familiar with serial numbers for vehicles, having written a parsing algorithm years ago to identify cars from their VIN. There are no color digits in a VIN unless they have changed things since then.

First digit is country of manufacturer
Second digit is manufacturer
Third is division of that manufacturer
Fourth and fifth is model (Stinger)
Sixth and seventh is a two-digit code for body style (hatchback sedan)
Eighth is engine
Ninth is a check digit to make sure there is no typo in the others
Tenth is model year
Eleventh is the plant where made
Remaining six are the sequential serial number

Do any of the vin numbers relate to the number of the car as they come off production line? I thought I would have a low production number as my car came off the line 11/17, but can't make heads or tails from the number. Thanks for the info, but still doesn't make sense when I look at my vin? Will research and share if I come up with more info.

Well, keeping in mind that korea had the Stinger released much sooner than the rest of the world our serial numbers are going to be very high.

The last six digits should be somewhat sequential. However manufacturers often manipulate those numbers to hide production from competition.

Since yellow is a standard color in other countries will it really tell us anything of concrete value?

see, from what i found was that the yellow was a limited color, not only in the u.s. but worldwide, that is why it is categorized as limited. now, if yellow is a normal order color in the rest of the world, then we have been lied to.

All vehicles with "Limited" on them are limited only by the number they can sell. It is a meaningless label.

i agree, but, according to the salesman and what i had researched, it is limited because of scarcity of that color. again, if they lied, i will be royally pissed.

I think the yellow color claim is legitimate. But you buy the car, not the color. Paying extra for a color doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but whatever you like ....

sorry, i probably didn't explain it correctly, the mrs and i would have bought a stinger anyway, we were leaning towards the red when we happened to see the yellow. dealer informed us that it was limited to a set number worldwide and we paid extra for that fact. i had a beemer years ago, that dragon green gold color. it was a special order, and even though i was going to buy the beemer anyway, the special color closed the deal. same here. the mrs and i wanted something that was out of the ordinary. anyway, we love the car and thats all that matters.

The yellow limited is limited to 400 units in the U.S.

In other countries the yellow is a standard color but not considered a limited.

He definitely lied using the word "worldwide" And now it's looking like yellow will be a regular color in next years' model, so I hope you bought it because it's the best color and not for exclusivity!

Actually the isolation is nearly 100% because cars allowed in one country often (usually) don't meet some detail needed for acceptance by the DOT in another.
