Well,

Ok, after reading all the great information on this forum, visiting several insane dealerships with markup fever and the fact that KIA launched a new car in the US without all the colors and options available worldwide, and they want >50K....this buyer is going to wait several months for things to settle down. I like the car, but would like it more in all the colors, with all the options and under MSRP with no markup.

In the meantime, I planning on going to the DC auto show this month and keeping an eye on this forum. And hopefully, in the coming months things will settle down. If not, I think I'll spend my 50K on either an Alfa, Audi, BMW or Mercedes. Brands/models that are stable.

Anyone else feel the same right now?

This all made a bit sense until you said Alpha ..................

You've obviously not driven the quadrifiglio or the 4c, both are awesome. I'm not sold on if they will last and not be back at the dealer every other week, but they do drive super nice..

Drove them both on a closed mountain road in a dealer promo here , agree on the drive but ergonomics , dash, seating , rears and QC/Reliability concerns , NFW , I've been spanked badly by BMW , so I'm a little more critical on the Italians ( and I'm married to one ! bawaaaa )

Yeah, I feel pretty much the same way. I'm waiting for the 2019's to see if it will have the missing features and colors. And I'm not paying more than msrp too. It will all work out, they just need time to get supply up.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
American's car sales system does confuse the smeg out of me ... and it's also seems to be corrupt as hell, both up stream and down stream. But that seems to apply to any buying/selling in the US - When lobbies can be funded by companies, and then influence politics, that doesn't help the consumer. Plus my net is still neutral ;-)

There are some pro's ... gas is 1/4 the cost ... and you have a great mod'ing facilities on your cars - we barely get 1/10th of the car mods here that you get in the US.

I'm about the same. I'm likely just going to buy my 2015 Optima and then wait for the 2019 versions. After hearing from multiple sources that it'll have some missing features, I might as well wait. I'm also hoping they'll add UVO remote connect to it as well, but that may be wishful thinking. The wait is killing me though, especially since everyone on here getting their cars seem to love them so much.

I hope they dont stick it to you with a big price increase for the missing options if they add them for the next model year . But if you dont need the car asap I think waiting will definitely get you past this price issue .

I doubt they will. They've priced this thing at the max they'll be able to in the US I believe. I think we've got the highest markup compared to other markets. After enthusiasts are done buying the car, they'll likely be selling under MSRP like the rest of Kia vehicles in the US.

I really think you'll see them tighten discounting in the upcoming years in favour of more value add and quality

Lobbying was invented by the Brits and I dont think the British politicians take the moral highground either ...............:whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle:

I definitely think they're going to try to do that. Whether they'll be able to or not is a different story. Even luxury cars aren't always sold at MSRP. Look at how many people on here are talking about how much under MSRP they got these other vehicles that they passed on the Stinger for. The discounts might not be as big as they have been in the past, but I don't see a day coming where the majority are going to be sold at MSRP. MSRP is just a starting point for negotiations with vehicles.

My rationale is based on how I see them driving very hard to achieve functional quality ( back to back #1 JD Power IQ ) and now adding the emotional quotient , beautiful design , driving dynamics , etc . With the suite of designers and engineers they have poached from Luxury competitors they clearly will spread their skills across the broader portfolio of cars to create much more desirable entries in all segments . The source of business will not only come from mainstream buyers and organic trading up but also Lux buyers who see the value and desireability . There are several owners on this Forum who were Lux buyers that likely feel they have a great value in the Stinger . Looking at some of their planned launches , concepts and upgrades to their existing vehicles tells me they are really onto a solid strategy for profitable growth .

I think the next Forte is going to tell us where Kia's future lies:
2019 Kia Forte renderings reveal a sedan with Stinger style

It'll be at the auto shows this year. This will help determine how Kia wants to play the pricing game in the future. We know they do NOT want to be known as a discount brand any longer...

I would humbly suggest they dont mind being a (good ) Value brand , just not a Discount brand
Right, they still want to be a good value. I'll change that in my post...

I believe that they plan to have profitable growth. Maybe I misunderstood what you were saying. It seemed like you meant that they wouldn't be offering discounts on MSRP in the future. I mean I don't think they'll be as big (currently in the thousands), but my guess would be that they will always be willing to negotiate. Also, this car is a much better deal in Canada. It is still a great vehicle in the US, but no where near as great as it is where you are. So you and I are also coming from different places.

Maybe , I think here , yes smoking deal and everyone is relatively happy to pay MSRP ................and thats the issue , they need to get their pricing right across the board so they dont have to offer deep discounts because the products should be laden with value , not just Stinger ALL their cars . We are pretty certain they underpriced the Stinger and we will see "adjustments " moving forward . I think the opposite is the case in the US , Kia USA need to get the GT up to spec and priced more strategically VS their own portfolio and the German benchmarks.............I think there is far too much riding in the success of the Stinger for them to not get it right ...................common sense usually prevails .

I'm contemplating waiting, but for different reasons. 1) I generally buy slightly used cars. I'm wondering how cheap a 2018 Stinger will be once the 2019 arrives. 2) I would hate to buy the 2018 and then the 2019 has the missing features restored.

I can't speak for everyone else, but in the south it seems that the Stinger is selling a good deal below MSRP. So that isn't really a concern. I also wonder if the 2018 Stinger becomes a hit does the 2019 cost substantially more to the point where it exceeds what I like paying for cars. So right now I'm kind of in Stinger limbo. More than likely I get the 2018. If our trims were like say Mexico, then I would have already purchased the "GT Line"
