The first time was a few days ago. About 10 minutes after arriving home, it stopped starting - the starter turns for a long time, but the engine does not start. The frontal impact assistant malfunction lighted up on the instrument panel display. In my cheap diagnostics, it says a throttle sensor malfunction. So I pulled out and reinserted the throttle body connector and the engine started immediately and drove without any warning light. The next day, the situation repeated itself exactly the same. Everything was fine all day. On Friday morning, about 2 kilometers after starting, the engine died while driving. I stopped, again the frontal impact assistant malfunction on the instrument panel, but the EPB, AUTO HOLD, engine and oil lights came on. About the tenth time, the engine started, the car was in limp mode, the tachometer did not work, the engine was jerky, the engine light was on and all the others that I mentioned. My diagnostics showed the TP throttle valve, the APP accelerator pedal position sensor and the CKP crankshaft speed sensor. So I had the tow truck take me to the service center /car still under warranty, 84000km, no modifications/. There they connected it to the KDS and it showed NOTHING, the car was running perfectly fine, no warning lights. They are keeping it there, they will find out what is going on...

say hello

Totally random but have a look at the voltage regulator that is usually attached to the alternator. This was a common GM problem that would bring up all sorts of dash lights. If that's giving out spikes and so on it might be causing this.

Thank you, the car is in the service. I just can't understand, my layman's Bluetooth diagnostics show me three error codes, the KDS in the service doesn't show them anything, there's nothing in the fault memory either. So they're clueless and don't know what to do with it. They'll contact the KIA department, it'll be weeks without a car...

Thank you very much for the answer. Yes, my scanner also showed two errors, the first failure was the gas pedal or throttle. I also showed it to the service. But they didn't listen to me at all...it didn't show them anything on their KDS diagnostics / I don't understand / so they didn't pay any attention to what I told them, nor did they try to use common sense...

Your scanner may have cleared the codes, or they may have been temporary or pending codes. Those can get erased once the issue goes away.
It certainly sounds like some strange electrical problem where the computer is getting bad signals and causing it to act strangely. Something like a throttle pedal full of water would definitely cause problems! For example, I'm not certain if the Stinger has this feature, but most cars have a "clear flood" mode where you hold the accelerator all the way down while starting the engine. It won't fire the injectors - no fuel - to clear out any excess fuel in the engine. If it can't read the pedal correctly then it may have thought that was happening.

I have no idea what happened to the codes, I didn't clear them on purpose to prevent the service from finding anything. I checked the gas pedal, there was no moisture there. I'm still surprised that the car came to the service on a tow truck, and they didn't find anything in the diagnostics and didn't even bother to think about what it could be. They just said they would drive it and see if anything came up.

There was no water on my gas pedal either that i could notice but as i had no choice i took it off and snapped the clips holding it together to get to the electrical board, it was then i saw water, cleaned the board and dried it all out, glued it together and away it went.

I got an answer from the authorized service KIA - probably the battery. They measured a momentary low voltage for a few seconds several times during the drive with the diagnostics connected. But the car drove normally, they didn't have any problems like I had.

They tell me that the battery is not covered by the 7-year car warranty...

It's possible, but unlikely. You can usually hold the workshop responsible - pay for this repair, and if the problem happens again, then they have to credit this amount to whatever they try next.

It just occurred to me, a month ago I was replacing the turbo lubrication tube - recall. Could they have damaged something there/snapped a connector wrong... I don't believe it's the battery

Ah, the dreaded turbo oil feed line recall, creating subsequent problems, some of them significant. The stories on here multiply. If this were my problem, I would definitely look into everything that they did, or didn't do that they should have, doing that recall work.

Well, voltage regulator.........battery.............it looked electrical and the fact it affected so many things.......

So, batteries are marvellous things. Normally, all they need to do is start the car. After that the alternator takes over and runs all electrics, BUT, if you have a battery that has a crook cell, it can seem good for a while but its charge can drop away quickly so you are going to get all sorts of problems.

When you have an intermittent problem like this and the battery is a few years old the first thing to do is get a new battery. The worst case is you have a new battery! You would have had to buy one eventually anyway

and yeah a battery is definitely not covered with a 7 year warranty, not when it's service life is about 4 and probably warrantied by the manufacturer for two......doesn't mean you won't get more than 4 years but every year after 4 is a bonus...

From the Australian Car Manual....

Battery Warranties
12V Auxiliary Battery : The original engine electrical system battery is fully covered for the first 2 years of the
KIA New Vehicle Warranty period regardless of kilometres.

Finally, the mystery is solved...it was the Roar Pedal. After removing it, the car has been running for almost 800 kilometers without any problems. The service center didn't even notice that it was installed, and I didn't know about it either / the previous owner put it there / I found it by chance while checking the gas pedal for moisture. I think my diagnostics also showed the throttle/gas pedal. The KDS supposedly showed nothing.

Good to hear.

My Pedal Commander was giving me issues when I first got the car. Was tripping lights just like you until I disconnected it. I just remembered that I had that issue in the past. I sent it back to Pedal Commander and they replaced a defective plug on it. Been working fine ever since.

Thanks for the info, I probably won't use mine, the car runs fine for me without it.

I can't live without mine... maybe people just need to remove the 10mm bolts and connect the plug properly to the pedal assembly?

My best mate had moisture thru his JB4 hole and had to buy a NEW pedal assembly, i have had no issues as i run Unichip but also my Pedal Commander is more than useful in economy mode.

Peace...
