There's really not many components to an actual cig lighter. Basically a positive and a ground, which is protected by a fuse. Check your manual for the fuse it's tied to and see if you blew the fuse from trying to pull too much current.
Make sure nothing foreign is in the lighter socket, sometimes conductive things like coins and/or foil gum wrappers can get in there and short it out so the fuse blows.

ah hah, a memory triggered by this ^^^. in our family the lighter never got used to light up. no smokers, but lots of children. so, useless, dangerous thing to have around. the coin trick was employed more than once.
