The heated steering wheel button (in the centre console, between the seat heating/cooling rocker switches) in my Stinger appears to have gone a little bit funny, it seems to have a bit less travel than the other buttons near it, and makes a weird clicking noise when pressed. The function still works, so I'm not super concerned about it, but it does feel very odd to press.

Anyone experienced this? Is there a way to easily remove the button and/or the metal trim for the centre console so that I can check underneath it? There's very little gap between the button and the surrounding trim/other buttons, so I can't really look underneath it as-is.

The top of that console comes off, sounds like something might have got spilled in the button.

I vote on a coffee or soda spill too with it's location so close to the cup holder.

How is that done without breaking anything?

I'm very doubtful of a spill, I never have open food or drinks in the car, don't even drink coffee etc so the cupholders are almost always empty.

Yep.

You could go into business selling centre console buttons wrecked by spilled drink. Whether you saw it or not that's what it is.
If you get it out it is probably a set of new buttons you can buy for a couple of hundred dollars......

As for fixing it............once you get it out and find it full of dust and muck........probably not.

I can say with utter certainty, nothing was spilled in there. I am the only one who drives it, very rarely have a passenger (my partner), and neither of us ever have liquids in the car. If I ever have a drink in the car, it's in my work bag which sits on the back seat.

I’ve taken it apart and it is not too difficult to do, but it’s not really worth it because there are some shrouds around the buttons that are much more difficult to remove. I wasn’t able to get the actual button itself out but I was able to stop it from sticking.

What I found is easier is using a contact cleaner (or something safe for electronics) that dries up quick. Give it a couple shots in the cracks and it will clean it up. I’ve also used a steamer over it which also worked. Just be careful not to overdo it.

Having had drinks spilled into the buttons before:

My solution was to pry up the center console, and then get to the buttons/levers/switches and clean them with electrical contact solution. Get the stuff in there and work the buttons/levers/switches so it works the gunk out.
