Got a 2018 Stinger a couple of month back and really like the car. Pretty much only thing that annoys me is that it drones at around 1400 rpm and also in the 1800-2000 rpm band at cruising speeds. Slight throttle and there is a very noticeable deep droning. It’s not ideal that it sits right at 60mph/100kph cruising rpms…

Have not found anything in the forum about stock exhaust drone, and since I have only driven this Stinger I wanted to hear your experiences - is this something common or is there something off with my car?

Never heard of read about any "drone" with a completely stock exhaust.

My 2018 with OEM exhaust does not drone at any RPM.

You sure previous owner didn't have aftermarket primary or secondary downpipes?

I suppose someone could say it slightly drones with the OEM exhaust but I would snap a photo of the underside of your exhaust for us because its possible it has an aftermarket system on it.

Thanks - Unlikely it is modified - the exhaust note is pretty tame and muted. Only time I had a look underneath this far was at state inspection and it looked standard.

I’m suspecting some resonance in the engine compartment or somewhere in the drive train - but not likely I’d have the only car experiencing that?

Winter tires?
How bad is this drone that we are talking about

It's bad enough that you think something is wrong with the vehicle?

Same with summer tires, so not the tires. It is not something that is obviously wrong, could just be a KIA playing in a new segment I though, but if noone else on here has reacted to the same thing, something is not right. It is too pronounced to not notice if it is there. It is a very audible lower frequency humming/growling sound.

Probably not a problem a dealer/shop would find easily, or even want to chase. So trying to do some detective work of my own.

I guess lifting the car and checking the exhaust is a good plan.

If it drones, it's not stick.

Post pictures of the pipes under the car, most drone occurs from the secondary cats and back, so getting a phone pointed at the right pipes shouldn't be too difficult.

Almost guarantee its not stock exhaust or down pipes. The early model Stingers are whisper quiet.

OK, thanks for the answers. I’ll see when I can get the car lifted to have a look at the exhaust, but pretty sure it’s stock since it is quiet. It’s a minor annoyance at this point, mostly irritating that it occurs right at cruising rpms. Been speculating if there might be something going on with the engine mounts that causes resonance.

Yep, found out it was not stock end of last year.....
