Steering Wheel Noises

Hi,

I was wondering if other people on occasion have steering wheel noises on occasion? It is very hard for me to describe the problem and to even pinpoint.

I suspect it has something to do with the cheap plastic trim on the bottom of the steering wheel that “flexes” and makes noises when you put pressure on it.

I am going to the dealer in a week to get the recall issue taken care of. Do you think it is worth having them rescrew in that piece of the trim? Not sure if that would fix it. I understand, plastic flexes sometimes.

Curious what your experience is.

Is it like a crackle or pop? I have been getting those recently and am worried it is a short. I had a similar issue in a 1993 Pontiac with a multifunction switch. I finally had it replaced when I saw a puff of smoke and all my lights and signals were flashing on and off like crazy. The switch was burnt and I was dang lucky it didn't catch fire.

It’s more like a light whine. I’m almost positive it isn’t the wheels. When you press the plastic trim on the bottom of the steering wheel does it make a noise?

Haven't been able to isolate it but I would not describe my noise as a whine.

How about a ”creek” when you press the plastic on the bottom of the steering wheel.

If you do not hear anything then problem mine needs be screwed in better.

Not that I have noticed but I’ll pay close attention during my next drive.
