I have a 2023 GT2 Touring Edition with 800 miles on it. Put on AFE intakes, catch can and JB4 with Fuel wires, and EWGs. What a pain in the arse those were. Terrible location. Anyways the JB4 manual states map 1 is the best chance to run stock plugs. So I took the car out for a spin on stock plugs to see if I was going to like the JB4 or not. So I did about 7 or 8 20-80 pulls on it. Wow I said. Total trip was about 23 miles.. Everything ran fine, very excited to get to other maps after changing plugs. So I parked the car a couple weeks till I had time to swap the plugs yesterday.

As you can see the stock plugs were just about done for. I would bet I didn't have another 23 miles. So I would say you have no chance on map 1 with stock plugs and gaps for extended driving. I would assume their so fouled due to spark failure under boost pressure. On a non turbo engine this would indicate running way to rich. What do you guys think...

those are ugly plugs. glad you didn't start misfiring before you pulled the plugs. ha ha.

hopefully the coilpacks and boots are ok. you'll find out after you put the new upgraded plugs in. if you get stuttering under boost it will probably show up after a couple of weeks. cross your fingers. they are under warranty to 60,000 miles.

Well going to sand blast these stock plugs and keep them aside incase I have to take it in for that. Boots and coils looked brand new still when I pulled them. Had zero issues when I parked it. Roads are shit here right now, be this weekend before I can get out and make a log or two and get it reviewed by someone that knows what their looking at. .

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
All that carbon means it's running too rich?

Yup, carbon buildup is too rich / "cold" spark which amazes me after only having 850 miles on the car.

What does stuttering under boost imply ? Misfire ? Bad coil packs? Bad boots? I have experienced this before but thought it was just a misfire. And it seems like plugs lifespan will all depend on driving environment and if you are on boost a lot. Could this be a weak spot or something to be cautious of for the stinger platform ? I’m starting to hear alot of stories about ppl with plugs going bad or just looking terrible after observation.

doubt it was that way before putting the jb4 on and running in map one. It still adds boost. Supposed to be in the 50s again here this weekend. going to do some logs in map 2 and pull a plug or 2 to make sure the issue is gone with the HKS 45 plugs.

really a lot of stories? the ones that involve a modified engine have to be separated out from stock engines that have a plug or plugs go bad. Kia recommends changing the plugs at 42,000 miles which seems early but the gdi engine must put more demand on plugs or something of the sort.

I’ve came across a few stories with stock engines and plugs going bad. Imo it’s definitely something that needs to be checked upon frequently every now and then
