Hey all, today i had my stock spark plugs replaced with Densos and the mechanic had showed me the stock spark plugs had a reddish hue deposit on them from high octane boosters/additives and asked if I used any. Let him know I have not and let him know I use 93 octane gas from Costco Gasoline and have been since purchase and all my previous cars.
He is saying that the gasoline may be mixed slightly with an octane booster to make it 93 and offer a cheaper c/gal. He mentioned overtime with possible upgrades and boost pressure gain there can be a likelihood of having one blown and or create potential issues.
Has anyone experienced this deposit wear or heard about any "issues" this may cause if the gas isnt switched to a different company?

I'm not a spark plug oracle, but those don't look bad. I had slightly more discoloration in my NGKs after ~12,000 miles (but I had used octane boosters intermittently).

How many miles do you have? Mine were working fine, I only swapped them because I got the gapping tool from BMS and wanted to ensure I had a consistent gap.

Yeah those don't look that bad actually, a lot of gas stations use different "additives" I'm sure this is caused by one or another.

Im at 3k miles and I swapped them for my RC. See, you used boosters as I have not so would it be true with Costco gas possibly adding some type of mixture to the gas?

Don't see anything wrong with that plug, even at 3k miles.

Thanks for the inputs! Just wanted to hear some thoughts about this. Guess I ain't changing anything

It is important to note Costco is Top Tier Gas. Kia recommends Top Tier fuel for the Stingers.

The diff between cheap gas and Top Tier is the amount of detergent additives in the fuel. You want your plugs to look like that.

Exactly ✔appreciate it!

I agree that discoloration is normal. Remember the spark plugs are exposed to super hot fire. Metals are bound to change color somewhat. I believe octane boosted exposed spark plugs are more orange, quite literally. Those plugs are simply discolored, not orange.

FYI mine were rather sooty when I took them out. They had a lot of idle hours over the winter which may have contributed (lots of catalytic warm-up time, car runs rich during this).

Get you another mechanic...those plugs are fine ....go look on you tube the color of MMT on plugs
MMT that's the additive in boostane....also tiny amounts in good gas too.....you aint got the orange plug from an octane booster :) Wash
