I fitted the spare today while the original wheel is having a minor repair done. Not the prettiest thing but is certainly at least fit for purpose.

Also discovered that the electronic tyre pressure gauges no longer work with the spare fitted and alerts you to the fact with a dash light warning.

Spares sure have come a long way.

Spares may have come a long way, but the use of compact spare tires to achieve a very minimal weight savings / MPH improvement is IMO one of the worst changes in cars in my lifetime.

Yeah, I got an aerosol can of "goo" with my G8. Fortunately never needed to try it. Tire problems with these premium tires are a nightmare in Podunk, Arkansas getting a replacement.

That was one of the things that floored me at a recent car show when I discovered it. I had not bothered to lift out the styro tool tray at the dealer when I first looked at the car, as I assumed it was a generic, black, stamped steel rim for the compact spare. When I saw that they had a cast, spoked rim for the compact spare KIA moved up another couple notches in my book ... :)

First time I've seen one that fancy.. :)

They wouldn't do it if a cheap plain wheel would fit over the Brembo brakes. Most aftermarket regular wheels won't fit, either, for those looking for a winter wheel and tire package.

I'm sure they could manufacture a steel wheel to fit if they wanted to - but it would be ugly as hell with that offset. Glad they went the route they did, it adds to the premium build quality vibe i get from the car ... :)

tire pressure gauge won't work with the spare unless it has a transponder in it to relay psi to the car. but then again, i used to use the doughnut spares as front drag tires when i used to race on fountain avenue......what, me? never, i would never street race. those are blatant lies. i am an upstanding member of society. don't worry about the bds blower sticking out the hood officer. its to keep my white castle burgers warm.

Perhaps a dumb question but hey... I'm good with posing those.

My spare appears to be 18" and my GT2 takes 19".

Is that normal?

Your car will fit 18, 19, 20, maybe even other sizes... But if you look at the tire profile (the second number), it won't be the same. As long as the tire diameter is the same or very close, the wheel size doesn't matter (except in the Stinger's case, to fit over the big brakes).

How did you get the spare to fit the front hub?
