I have balding tires and they are due for replacement after taking it for an Oil change at Mavis. But what concerns me is a slight rubbing noise, almost scrapping like sound. It does not get worse by accelerating - I have a feeling that tire RPM's make the sound fade in with the other sounds of the car at high speed.

My first guess would be a rotor/brake issue even though I can hear it without touching the brakes slowing down just by coasting. If it were a wheel bearing, it would only get worse while going fast and start vibrating - but steering stays responsive and smooth - and I would assume a hub bearing is more of a humming noise than a scrapping metallic sound.

Worn tires can make odd noises. Get the new ones on first and see if the noise goes away. I had a bit of tread lifting off the outer edge of my FL tire; very worn, and brisk cornering had peeled a small section up. I didn't know this at the time I drove some eighteen-hundred miles home: what I heard was a humming vibrating sound in the low register that only became obvious after I noticed it. New tires eliminated the noise entirely. So, that worn tire was the culprit.
