Normally I can easily put my bike in the hatch with the seats down, but I'm looking at a fairly substantial road trip in the spring and may not have enough room in the car for the bike and everything else I'll need to take with me, so I'm looking at either a roof or trunk rack. I have a Seasucker Talon that I used with previous cars, but never for any long-distance travel. I really don't want to spend the money on a rook rack system that will only get used a few times so I'm looking for alternatives.

Does anyone have any experience with either of the racks in the title post?

I've used trunk racks before. They WILL eventually warp panels and scratch paint, depending on how frequently and how much weight is on there. But it's inevitable over time for sure. I use a hitch rack, but for a recent long bike trip, I put it inside, for the better mileage, which turned out significant. The Sea Sucker has a good rep.

You wouldn't happen to have any pictures with the car loaded and the bike inside, would you? Absent that, how full was the car? what sort of Tetris did you have to do to get the bike to fit?

Just take the front wheel off, there's lots of space. I had a lot of gear with me, clothes and gear for 5 days. There's a lot of available cubic feet due to the hatchback nature and removing the deck/lowering seats. IMG_9677.webp

Thank you. I normally carry it with the front wheel off and fork towards the back, just never full of other stuff.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Redleg Artillery? I was rockets.

As long as you have soft bags, you can find all kinds of places to put stuff with this much cubic feet of volume. My bigger concern is keeping it clean, so I have a big blanket that I use if I go that route. I typically don't, but in the winter I want to keep my bike inside rather than let it get pummeled by all the salt and stuff.

I am artillery, cannon type. I just might have to test pack before the trip to make sure that I don't have to get a rack.
