If any of you are using an ultra fit USB to play music from watch out. Due to the high read write speeds it heats up and when it gets too hot the left channel in the sound system drops out. I only had this happen today and did some research. Apparently it’s a flaw in the USB and avoid 3.0 USB s and stick with 2.0 as they don’t get as hot.
I tested the radio and sound system is fine and later did a check on a cool USB works ok too so it has to be a heat problem.
They did say a sandisk Cruzer fit is better as it has 2.0 speeds whilst still being small.

Most USB storage devices list the read/write speeds on the package. The cheaper ones are cheap for a reason. Best source of high speed USB devices is at a camera retailer because cameras rely on high speed data transfer for video capture. Lexar and Sandisk have several speed levels from which to choose.

In my case high speed means hot so I want low, speed.

Low speed USB 2.0 should work just fine for audio only. The specs are listed in the Radio/Media manual beginning on page 2-11. It doesn't specify 2.0 or 3.0 but it does say you should not leave the USB in the slot when starting the car, and there are bit-rate limits on what it can handle.

I've been using one since I bought it in 2014, never had an issue. It's never removed except to add music, possibly twice in >3yrs..

When you're using a usb stick are you connecting it to the same port as what you would use to connect your phone, i.e. carplay and android auto?
