Hey peeps,

I have a 2019 Kia Stinger GT AWD (brembo). I did a HDPE session a few weeks ago and I had a lot of fun doing it. However, at the 3-4th track time, I could definitely feel that the OEM brakes/rotors weren't that happy with the abuse. Even the instructor said that my motors were warped, but there is also that sticky thread that suggests what's actually going on. Since then (and previous to), my brakes have been just during daily driving.

Anyways, I want to do HPDE sessions 1-2x a year, and I don't know what level of brakes/rotors would be good for me. Yes I could go a really nice set of EBC slotted/drilled rotors + yellow stuffs, but is that really needed for my application? 1) It's expensive and 2) It's noisy. Can I just use red stuffs (or another brand) and OEM rotors? Once the rotors go, replace it with something upgraded aftermarket and just run those?

I'm not trying to turn my stinger into a track champion, just a silent daily driver with the fam and holding my own on my 1-2 track days.

later gators!

#1. It's not the rotors that's the problem.
#2. It's the pads.
KNS Brakes offer track pads, FYI.
#3. Generally speaking, a good track pad will not work well on the street.
#4. You could try the "Euro" semi metallic pad. They are not cheap, but I can give you my personal experience that work exceptionally well when driven hard. I have 8k miles on my set, of which roughly 3k miles have been mountain driving in a very aggressive fashion, and I've had not one issue with them. In fact, the hotter they get, the better they work. I'm on stock rotors FYI.

What about HPS 5.0? I reading reviews that they are a good street/track compromise for us weekend warriors

That is not a pad suitable for track driving.

See here, and look under "race pads." :

You call also call Ken @ KNS Brakes and ask what's best suited to your car and how you drive. He is truly an expert in all things brake related.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
curious, why do you keep bringing up KNS? Are you affiliated with them?

I bring them up because they know more about brake than I do, and I know more about brakes than you do. I am not affiliated.

Well I mean there are plenty of fish in the sea, you seen kinda bent on one in particular

I needed some advice on new rear brake pads. Ken contacted me and recommended Hawk hps 5.0 for our cars. I’ll probably go with Girodisc magic for the front. Daily driving only though..
