Roadshow says special editions may be coming in the Spring.....

yeah, that seems like an oddly timed "leak" ......

Speak for yourself, I don't love "loud", and making the car deliberately noisy is antithetical to a "grand tour".

That's bad news for anyone hoping to be an early adopter.

Not really. They've said they have worked out a bit of a throatier sound to it. I will have to wait until I hear it. I like a little grumble when I rumble, but in my opinion, that's what aftermarket is for, if you want it, add it yourself.

***WARNING***
The following contains my personal opinion and is no way associated with Kia, this forum, the NHRA, the NHL, the NFL, or any of their affiliates. My hats off to otolaryngologists and my sincerest apologies to those that do have nasal issues and/or sound nasally. It is not my intention to offend anyone but if I did, GOOD! It's about time someone does! LOL

As long as it doesn't sound like 'grapefruit shooters'. You know, those cars/trucks, with the exhaust that is 10 times bigger than a human head and can launch grapefruits out if it? That 'brrrrrraaaaaapppp aaaappp apppp appp appp' sound. That makes me cringe. The big thing around here seems to be diesel pick ups that have put their exhaust into smoke stacks (like 18 wheelers) or have exhaust tips that could jump start a battle cruiser... that stuff makes my ears bleed. I'd rather put my ears next to a drag car exhaust, they sound better.

People that just slap those tips on just don't understand the idea of tuning an exhaust and it's an art. (No, I couldn't do it, I'm not an artist but I can appreciate art. LOL) A grumble as it rolls by, a roar as they stomp on it, sweet music. Instead they slap a tip on and think a nasally snort and sneeze sounds good.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
This is the specific part of the article that I think is bad news for anyone planning on buying one asap. Why would I want to buy one now when a better one will be available come spring?

To that end, special edition Stingers are planned, with the first such models expected next spring. Initially, expect things like unique exterior and upholstery colors and perhaps new wheel designs, but actual performance enhancements are likely, too. "That's the part we're going to work on," says Hedrick.

You do have a point. But it's expensive to change the entire manufacturing process of a car in such a short period of time, metal stamps, dies, molds, etc. Personally, I think they will wait a year or a little longer to release the next significant model. Of course that all depends on the reception of the vehicle, demand, etc. While I hope they do, GO KIA/HYUNDAI, I also think it will probably be more expensive than what they already have. And if there are substantial bugs/defects in the early model, I will file a lemon claim and demand they give they give me the newer model. :p

In other words, mid-cycle updates will likely mean costs creep up in future iterations, akin to the G80 in the past 3 years.

Or, held back features like the 360 degree camera will be presented as an "upgrade" in model year '19, for a nominal increase. I see you Kia - borrowing from the Samsung / Apple playbook.

This is very good news for 2.0t shoppers. The content just isn't right currently. The base price needs to drop 2 grand to open up space in the middle for a GT line with led lights and better wheels. Mid tier sunroof, cross traffic and blind spot options need to fit there too.
