Hey all,

I have my order in for a 2022 Kia Stinger Scorpion because I absolutely love the blacked out wheels look. The car should be here in January.

In the past, I have always purchased cheap steel wheels when buying winter tires - it is easier to switch and cheaper.

I am thinking for my Stinger to buy winter tires only and have them switch the tires to the original rims each changeover.

Any thoughts on this or reasons why I shouldn't? Maybe the constant ice and salt will end up being very bad for the rims, etc.

Thank you!

Other than the Neanderthals working at tire shops will scrape / ding your nice blacked out rims… go for it.

Yeah, wheels will take a beating from the tire swap. It's bad enough just having dedicated winter to summer wheels changed each year: that's two times on/off per year. Add in twice a year peeling tires off and putting others on, that can't be good for the rims.

I went with using the OEM wheels as my winter setup. I can't see myself enjoying steelies or any other cheap looking wheel for c. four months out of the year.

I myself cant see myself using chose cheap alloy rims for the winter. Since Its my second winter tire swap to my OEM rims and fairly brand new... I think I should be fine. But next year definitely purchasing rims for tire set up.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I have a 2022 Stinger GT Elite that I ordered last March and took delivery in June. When I ordered the car I negotiated a winter tire package as part of the deal. I got Kia accessory rims (black alloys) and Michelin X-Ice+ Snow tires.

when you factor the cost of two changeovers per year, the winter rims are paid off within 3-4 years.

As others have mentioned, unless you find a really really good tire shop with the proper tire changing equipment the edge of the rims can get chewed pretty badly. Then, there is the tires…the constant on and offs is hard on the tire beads.

Also, there is always the possibility of the TPMS sensor getting wrecked if the tires are not taken off correctly.

Additionally, if you have mounted winter wheels,i you can your wheels yourself using the jack that comes with the car, a breaker bar and a torque wrench. Even more savings.

Thanks all. You have helped me decide to either take the cheap steel rims for the winters or buy a nice set. But I won't switch the tires on the same rim.
