Hi Stinger Fam!

I’m new to this forum but have a 2018 Stinger GT2 that I purchased new. I love this car but had a few issues recently, one was the remote start stopped working. I took my Stinger to Kia for a service and asked them to look into the remote start, as it’s under warranty.

The Kia garage called today and said they couldn’t repair the remote start because they discovered unknown wiring that looks like some after market electrical work, and that they’d need this wiring removed before they could attempt to fix the remote start, and that they’re not sure what the wiring connects to.

I’ve never done any aftermarket electrical work to my car, and always used the same Kia garage for servicing and maintenance, and don’t know what the wiring connects to. I called the Kia showroom from where I purchased my Kia brand new (different to where I have maintenance done as it’s closer to home) and they changed ownership last year, so they can’t tell me what if any after market work may have been done before they sold the car to me.

I’ve attached the photos of the wiring a box that connects to some of the wiring, and I’m hoping someone can tell me what the wiring might be for.

Also, I plan to reach out to the Kai Stinger Concierge team but was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on next steps.

Thanks I’m advance,
S.

You bought a car NEW, and it has some strange aftermarket wiring... Weird..

Can you see where these obviously aftermarket wires connect to?

When you say your remote starter doesn't work, is this a Kia accessory with a keyfob? Or are you starting from the Kia Connect cell phone app?

Yes very weird!

I don’t know where these wires connect to. The attached photos are what the Kia garage shared with me.

Yes it’s the Kia accessory with the fob.

If you bought it new from a Kia dealer, then go back to that dealer. Lots of dealers like to add aftermarket alarms, immobilizers and trackers and insist that that you pay for it because it is their "standard practice". Since they would have added it, they should be able to service it.
Scumbag dealers that try to rip customers off. I had this happen to me once, and I insisted that I wasn't going to pay for the addition or no deal. They disabled it, but it was still in place.

Thanks @rpoffen, I appreciate you sharing your experience and suggestion. I reached out to Kia Stockton, and apparently they changed ownership last year and don’t have any history or records. Which I find hard to believe.

I’m going to reach out to Kia Concierge next and see what they say.

Thanks again!
