So I'm noticing the rear vents have a temp control on the console back there and it seems to make it totally independent of the setting in the front?

Like if I have it on sync so there's no dual control and I have it relatively cool the rear will still blow downright HOT air if that dial is set to hot.
And visa versa if it's on cold and I have the heat going.

I would have thought it would be kind of tied to the control in the front but is that not the case or am I doing something wrong?

correct, it is totally independent to the front!

man that's crazy
There were a few times in summer I'd have the AC on and notice heat blasting from the rear vents.
Totally stupid design

I don't think it's a bad thing... i actually am really glad it is independent, it is setup identically to most of the bmw's and audi setups with a temp dial for the rear. It gets used very often for us since some family members much prefer to be warm than others so a common temp setting in our vehicle is 68 for driver, 75 for passenger and somewhere warm ish in the rear. I'd love to have quadzone climate like the s class/7 series :D

The discovery by me was exactly as yours. I don't find the design stupid: it blows hot or cold, that's all. In AC weather, dial the rear to blue; in winter dial it to red. Simple.

yeah I know you are right. For me I have to little kids so it's always a wild card where they left the thing. Now of course it's on my radar and I reach back and feel the vents and I know which way to turn it blindly to go from one to the other.
I agree for back seat passengers it is good to be able to change it, but IMO the variation of temp should be something in the realm of what the main cab is set to. Basically just to eliminate the ridiculous situation like I encountered where it's 90 out, I'm running AC and it's blowing outright heat in the back. Finicky passenger or not I can't imagine anyone wanting full on heat in summer weather.

my 5 year old boy likes the temperature different in the back while he's in his car seat than what i like in the front.
so, i like that its independent. I just wish he'd quit putting his dirty hands all over the window.
