Rear bumper damage - how much pain am I in for?

Hey Stinger fam,

First off, I absolutely f***ing hate that my first post in this wonderful forum is this one... I know I'm a moron, but please go easy on me. It's been a rough couple days.

With that out of the way, I accidentally banged my brand new Snow White Pearl Stinger's bumper/diffuser while parking at my work garage yesterday. Just a case of backing up a little too confidently, I guess. Pics attached.

Damage seems relatively minor, and electronics/sensors seem to working just fine. However, I'd like to make sure my car looks pristine (I just had a ceramic coat put on about 3 weeks ago), so what are my options? Is this something a detail shop will be able to clean up? Should I head straight to an auto body shop? Or am I looking at a full replacement?

How much would this cost, if I were to pursue any of the above? Lastly, am I just freaking out for no reason?

Howdy, @CzarXander. That doesn't look too bad. Being an acute edge, that black will probably be almost invisible if you pull a touchup gloss black brush along it. In the meantime, you can make it far less visible by using the Sharpie trick. The white damage is going to not touchup as well. But applying only the barest touchup to the actual spots and then sanding LIGHTLY with wet-dry (2000 grit or smaller): you don't want to make the aggrieved area bigger! (I have empirical knowledge of this) Then put on wax. The danger of damaging surrounding paint when touching up small nicks like these makes me leery, and lately I've just left the slightly raised touchup spots alone; so, your call. If your eyes are not drawn to the damage from five-six feet away, only you will know it's there.

As for the scrapes that haven't reached all the way to the black plastic, using rubbing and then polishing compounds will take down a lot of that. What's left you can knock back further with coats of wax.

Ultimately, if none of the above works to your satisfaction, find a good body shop: it should be under a thousand for the lot. So far, the several small damages I've suffered in over three and a half years have not punched my OCD buttons enough to do that.

This is a snow white stinger. I have noticed my pearl girl has very very thin paint. It will be a pain to paint match... from personal experience. But hey it's not impossible.

Ugh...I know that feeling well. I recently had my front bumper repaired and repainted after hitting some road debris. Luckily, I have comprehensive insurance so it didn't cost me anything but the total cost billed through insurance was just south of 2K. I'm afraid the only way you'll be able to fix that to the point you don't notice it every time you approach the car is to take it to a body shop. Sucks...sorry about that.

@MerlintheMad I don't have the skillset or the self-belief to attempt something like this, as much as I'd like to. I'd prefer to take it to a professional and just pretend like this never happened haha

Luckily, there is a body shop I trust locally that also happens to be Kia-certified - I think I'm gonna pay them a visit next week. I've also got an appointment for a complimentary wash/cure check-in at the detail shop where I got my ceramic coat tomorrow; I'll see if there is anything they can to minimize this in the meantime.

Dealing with pearl that’s going to need to be repainted to make right.

For example, 2 weeks after we bought our new to us pearl white Ascent at the end of October we took it back to the dealer for complimentary PDR. The tech had an issue with his tool that led to a chip down to the metal with the paint cracked around it. Estimate ran $1,400 and required the whole door to be painted, blend into rear door, upper window moldings and lower cladding on both doors needing replaced. Pearl is nice but it’s a bitch to fix!

I had a very small ding and scratch in my rear bumper caused by an older gentlemen backing into my car as I was walking towards it in a parking lot .................insurance paid for it but it was $2200 all in . They need to remove the bumper to fix/repaint . The good news is they matched the paint perfectly ,

Anyone know a good place to buy replacement bumper ? I’m in sane situation but worse not using insurance. I see eBay but some a rough need a legit place to get a bumper and left tail light
