Like many, I've tested the Stinger and am super impressed. Dynamite car for the money.

But I've been reading the "rattling-in-the-hatch' threads with growing dismay. To such an extent that I retest drove a GT2, listening for the rattle, and yep, there it was. If even a (recently built) test drive demo has it, I'm guessing it's far from resolved.

To be blunt, this would drive me insane. Not because of the car's price, but because it is a GT first, and cabin serenity matters. For people with the car, is it making you regret the decision at all? This is a safe space. We know the car on balance is a near miracle for the price. I'm simply talking about the rattles at this point. And I'll never be in the mood to glue cushiony tissue to the hatch inserts or whatever do-it-yourself fix you more (admirably) handy drivers might try.

I have no doubt Kia will figure this out later. It could very well be a first year model problem. Which means year 3 Stinger might be the one to buy. I'm just curious what everybody candidly thinks. Thanks.

I have a 11/17 build with VIN ending in the 18000’s. It would be interesting to see the VIN on demo model. Guessing 10/17 build and if red would certainly be 10/17 or earlier.

I’ve had for several months and no rattles at all.

I only hear a like rattle when I hit a big pothole or bump and even then I don't always hear it and idk if it comes from the hatch or something else. but now I catch myself listening for it because of reading about this issue. I played around with the hatch a bit and can't seem to find anything loose or moving. like I said it's only during a big bump

Rattles can be fixed.

I had a bad hatch rattle that was 80% fixed right away. The remaining amount only happens once in a while and I’m fine with waiting until my first oil change to address it.

Apparently, following the correct torque on the bolts is important.

I keep forgetting to check my build date but I got my car on Jan 15th and have never heard a rattle.

Now I probably will on the way home today from work but so far nothing!

I had the rattle too. But all I had to do was twist the trunk bump stalks like 2 turns on either side and the rattle went away completely. Never had an issue ever since.

No rattle on mine. Tight and quiet. GT2 AWD.

the two rubber things on the side?

The dealer fix for hatch rattle was only partially successful on my 2.0T. I fixed it by cutting and installing thicker silicone spacers than the factory. I do not hear any other rattles.

The knobs sticking out of the trunk that can be height adjustable. I'll take a pic when I get a chance.

No rattles heard at all. And, I am sure, we all have owned vehicles that had annoyances that we didn't know about. My own, the skip shift on my Vette. Was it a deal breaker, honestly, no. I just snipped the wire. Or, my personal favorite, the mrs mustang which ate oil at a rate of a guart per 500 miles. And this was deemed normal. Now, if it was a broken weld, then I might return it, but, personally, taking 20 seconds to twist the bolt 2 turns to fix the problem is cool for me.

I am thankful my problem was solved so easily without a visit to the dealership but it seems others are having more pervasive problems with their trunk rattle. It's an ongoing issue that many owners will have to sort out in their own way it seems.

I have read here and elsewhere it is a simple tightening of some bolts in the hatch and it’s gone. Problem solved.

There is a tech bulletin on the hatch rattle. Are you guys having trouble after that was performed, or just not aware of the bulletin?

Not a deal breaker for me, took my car in last Friday and had the hatch tsb performed on my car. No noise now whatsoever!

It's nothing. I kinda heard it on mine only on big bumps so I drove to the Kia dealer and they took care of it in 25 minutes. Definitely not a reason to stay away from the car lol

I have this noise, and dealer cannot fix it even after they fly a corporate engineer in. The engineer said "noise is within decibels of specification" which is bullshlt because the rattle is not a LOUD noise. After the repairs my orginally silence sunroof now creaks bad too, especially when sun shade is open. I will keep filing complaints until this is solved. Absolutely unacceptable for a $52000 car.

I am considering to find a lawyer if eventually it cannot be fixed or kia won't fix it for free. Eventually I have made up my mind to loose $10,000 in value and let it go if everything fails. If u have a super nagging gf/wife u will know. It's nothing BIG deal, but it drives u MAD. I simply do not spend money to have it constantly rattles and reminds me that I should have just stayed away cheap brand's attempt in being fancy.

TL;DR:

YES it is a deal breaker. I will not purchase this car at all if I know this issue, however good value or performance it has.

I do not recommend anyone on this car unless they admit and fix their wrong doings. I have all spark plugs and coil springs replaced, a recall on wires, and now this, basically non-stop visits to dealership since I bought it April 2018.

I have a light and intermittent cable-is rattle somewhere in the front dash towards the windshield. I'll probably never find it, and even if I do, there is no way to fix it, other than tearing the car apart, only to create 100 more rattles in putting everything back together...

Again, it is amazingly minor and most people can't hear it. Even with the slightest of radio or music playing, it is immediately drown out.

NOTE: Stinger GT, AWD, tinted windows (maybe makes my car a bit more quiet than non-tinted windows?), 15,500 miles, purchased in September 2018 - Yah, I drive a lot!!!

The hatch rattle on mine was fixed by turning the bump stops, and now only rattles when I hit a bump or uneven pavement. The sunroof creaking I only hear when it's cold, as in less than 50 degrees or lower. The only other creaking I hear is my driver side door, and I can't figure out for the life of me what it is. Other than that, the only thing I hear is my kids gawd damn toys that I can't seem to find!!
