I have several questions, nothing major but ones I'm sure a number of forum members can answer with 100% accuracy.

I have less than 2 days with the car and I don't yet know how to neuter the nanny state cruise control. It thinks it's smarter than a human and brakes far too vigorously. I want the braking completely disabled so I determine when and how hard to brake.

The car has a polished metal surround encompassing the door unlock lever. Will quality car wax keep it pristine or will it damage the finish?

I've seen elastic mesh for the hatchback to keep cargo from moving around but don't know the source.

Anyone have a nice solution to holding the hatchback floor covering up if you want to charge the battery?

Wow, I simply cannot believe that a car at this pricepoint can be so impressive. The car moves off smartly with the slightest throttle. There's a fairly steep hill (for a non mountainous area) on the way home and a very modest throttle application had it accelerating briskly. No question whatsoever that it's quicker than the Chevy SS I lost. I'd have thought that I'd have to go for a BMW or Mercedes at $100,000+ to get this kind of power and maybe not similar responsiveness.

Last question. How do you take the engine cover off w/o breaking some attachment point. I'm sure it can be done but I don't want to learn by damaging it. Thanks, Don

I haven't found a way to change the smart cruise control to dumb cruise control. Traffic around here too intense to use cruise anyway so its been off most of the time. You sure it's cruise and not forward collision that's doing the braking? The latter can be disabled but must be done after each restart.

I attached my battery tender to the front (under hood) battery terminals. Car is in a detached garage with plenty of venting. The tender is a weak unit at 3 or 4Amps. Hood stays slightly open. I know the manual says to charge directly to the battery but that's just too much of a hassle. If I was charging at a higher rate then sure, but for maintaining I don't see an issue. Make sure you use a charger for agm batteries.

To keep crap from floating around in the back I use 3 rectangular boxes, ~12-14" wide by 3' long.

If your 3.3 cover is like my 2.5 then it's just a matter of lifting it at the corners. The studs from the engine engage into a rubber grommet of sorts. Mine has 4 (one at each corner), expect yours to be similar.

I can respond to some of your questions...
1. for the smart cruise control, i don't have it but i know that you can alter the sensitivity of reaction through the instrument cluster options. if you are talking about the forward collision avoidance system , you can turn that off as well through the instrument cluster options as well afaiw.

2. i have so far only just wiped it down with a microfiber towel and a tiny bit of griots interior cleaner... haven't had to polish or anything.

3. there is a oem mesh for 50 dollars but the stinger is a floor style that lays flat on the floor... i got a aftermarket one for 20 dollars from amazon.

4. drive too often for this so haven't had to deal with it. If you are wanting to trickle charge the battery, i'm sure it's a similar situation to our bmw's where you should use the negative and positive jump point terminals under the hood to hook up the charger to.

and i agree, the torqueiness and feel is pretty good especially for the pricepoint. Definitely doesn't fall short of it's german competitors.

5. you just pull off the engine cover up straight from each corner as it is just friction ball sockets holding the cover on..

that's really interesting.. i wonder if it's all the regulations requiring cars to be able to stop themselves now for pedestrians etc ... pre-2022 models you could convert scc to regular cc but i don't see a way in the manual for 22 models at all... this was the way pre-refresh: I
searched the 2022 manual but don't see any reference to change it...

Thanks much, I'll try to see what will happen. Sometimes machines are NOT smarter than their owners. Don

2022 owner's manual makes no mention of the two. The only options are distance and how quickly it reacts, fast normal, slow.

We have the intersection below in town. Cars are supposed to stop for pedestrians crossing the street. Most don't unless you literally walk out in front of them.

Yeah I searched and searched the manual and could not find a way to change the car to 'dumb' cruise control. I don't think it's possible on 2022 models. The best you can do is reduce the sensitivity of the reaction and the distance, as others have said.

I do think this is one of the best cars you can buy in the mid 40K to 50K range, given the performance and practicality. It's actually one of the fastest as well, especially if you're shopping for a 4 door vehicle. It's only beaten by a very small list of cars in straight line performance (Charger Scat Pack, G70, and I think that's it) in that price range.

I'm still awaiting to see how it will hold up long term. My dealership experience has been good thus far, but I haven't needed to visit besides oil change.

The only issues I have with ACC are that it will brake very aggressively if a car slows down to turn ahead of you. The system plans that the car may not turn, it may just stall out, so it takes a worst-case approach until the car is clear from your path. This has saved my ass once or twice. You can adjust the aggressiveness of this, making it happen later, but it's still likely to be more conservative than your eyes where you figure the car ahead is going to be out of the way by the time you get there. It only senses forward speed of the vehicle ahead and whether it will be out of the way by the time your car gets to that point. So if I foresee this causing an issue ahead, I just flip the disengage button until said traffic has cleared, then re-engage. Smooth.

The other issue is accelerating from a stop. It's pretty lazy. My Elantra GT N-line and BMW were better in this regard. Luckily, it's not hard to fix this, you just push down on the accelerator and go the speed you wanna go for about 10 seconds. After that 10 seconds is when it decides it wants to go to the speed you have set or to follow traffic ahead. Otherwise, it does open up a rather large gap and it's definitely larger than the other cars I've had with ACC.

I assume what I wrote is what you mean about braking, because you really wouldn't want to be following any closer than min interval with any significant speed. You might think you want to, but IME that's the false sense that you can stop in the distance where you really cannot.

I'm pretty sure I can disable ACC completely, I haven't been into the screens for a while, I know there was some weird speed limit thing active when I bought it that I disabled. Same with lane assist and warning, don't have to have those engaged either.
