Without going into all the details, I'm getting a new battery put into my car (under warranty) and considering having the Remote Start installed so I can make sure to at least start the car everyday (no one knows why the originally battery died, but best guess is because I don't drive my car everyday and it died during several very cold days of sitting and not being started).

So my questions is for folks that have had Remote Start installed after purchase.
1. Did you get the OEM remote start? How much was it for everything (parts and install)?
2. Can you please give some details on any issues you might have had?
3. To you, was/is the convenience worth the cost?
4. Any advice or warnings you can give now that you've had yours for some time?

I ask these questions because the tech that was working on my car for the battery issues doesn't have a very high opinion of aftermarket remote starters, not even if KIA OEM and installed at the dealer, so I wanted to see what others thought.

Thank you.

Oem remote start doesn't allow a drive off in the US. There is a canbus device being released very soon that will be cheaper than oem and with all the features we want.

I installed my own in 10 mins (oem remote). Super easy but this alternate option will be superior.

Can you eloborate a bit on the oem remote install?

1. My car has it, but it was already installed and the car was priced less than the other dealer's similar car without one, so there wasn't really a cost for me.
2. I found it took a lot of practice to get good at actually using the remote start fob, although the operation from the key itself is easier (but shorter range maybe?). The Kia video helped me finally figure it out. The engine stopping when you open the door is annoying, but not excessively so.
3. Living in Texas I'm not sure I'd pay $500 or whatever they charge for it, maybe this summer I'll change my mind.
4. Not sure this is advice so much as a complaint, when I try starting it from long range I don't know how to tell if I succeeded or not, some days I come up to the car and its running, others it is not. I need to do more research I guess to see if the remote actually gives you a positive indication of a remote start or not.

The lights will flash twice once the car has started.

On the car or the remote? Usually I don’t have a good line of sight to the car. I know it can handle the range as some days it’s running, I just don’t have the button press exactly right yet I think.

The install is easy. Remove the panel under the glove box as well as the panel on the right passenger kick panel. You unhook three connectors, fit the remote module in line, then zip tie into the opening. Probably more like 30 mins, but it isn't tough.

Can you provide any more info on this soon-to-be-released device? Sounds interesting!

Thanks,

Rich

idatalink has firmware for our cars.. You can install an aftermarket Compustar Remote start that will also not turn off your car when you open the door (oem remote start turns the car off when opening the door)
Your oem remote can be used to activate this remote start as well or go with a drone mobile to use an app on your phone..

I'm scanning Facebook to find the post about the canbus device. It was expected this month.
