Question to my Australian friends.

Just saw that video. With so much lie and misinformation it is impossible to know. So is this true?

Yeah looks pretty normal to me. The virus spread particularly badly here when those whom were told to home quarantine with the virus took no notice and then went off to mingle.

These types were called super spreaders. Some states here have no covid at all as their borders are closed.

I understand its cold but it saves lives.

Ok. So who and how is it decided who must home quarantine? Also since you can't leave the house, you obviously can't get to work. So how do they pay the bills, or get to the grocery store? If you don't mind me asking? Are these problems addressed by the government?

You can leave the house to do the following with strict guidelines ie: must wear a mask, not to travel in group & no visitors allowed at your house.
You can still go to work if your company is deemed an essential service which can be very broad, or if applicable your employer must/may give you the option to work from home.
You could only stay in your Local Government Area & some LGA’s are restricted to travelling no more than 5kms from your home.
You can still get groceries & essential items eg: fuel, tyres etc.
If you were put off work because of COVID the Federal Government paid a benefit called job keeper of up to $750 per week.
Here in NSW we have reached 70% of the states adult population with vaccaction so from Monday 11th restrictions are easing & once we hit 80% double dose it will be almost back to normal for those that are fully vaccinated.

It was & now we’ve been in lockdown since late June this year since the Delta strain took hold.

Anyone arriving into any Australian State from overseas is required to do a 14 day quarantine period to ensure they are virus free before being let loose into the general population. This is usually done via hotel quarantine. Hotel quarantine has proved problematic with many cases of COVID arising within quarantine but then running rampant in the community mostly due to poor infection control measures. It’s also expensive; costs are borne by the quarantinee and it’s also soul destroying; akin to solitary confinement. In my State of Queensland we’ve had 2 suicides in the last 4 weeks from people not handling quarantine well.

To put things into perspective, that video is talking specifically about the State of Victoria transitioning from hotel quarantine to a trial of home quarantine. It’s not about lockdowns per se.

In hotel quarantine it’s easy to determine a person‘s whereabout, home quarantine less so. The electronic tracking might seem big brotherish but if this pandemic has taught us one thing it’s that many people can’t be trusted to do the right thing and will place self interest well ahead of the well being of the community.

To answer your specific questions as they have just returned from overseas they haven’t been at work anyway. Alternatively, for people who are returning to Australia after travelling internationally for work their wages will continue to be paid by their employer. Bills can be paid online and groceries can be ordered online also. Friends and relatives are also allowed to drop stuff off at your house provided they don’t come into contact with you. Personally if I was offered the choice between quarantine in the comfort of my own home as opposed to 14 days in a hotel room I’d be strapping on that ankle tracker before you could say ‘I love Big Brother’.

However the OP was an innocuous and, I believe, genuine question asked specifically to Australian forum members about a situation specific to Australia which now seems to have been fully answered. So long as any future comments are kept on topic to the OP and people don’t start posting meandering rants on whether COVID does or doesn’t exist in their specific reality will determine whether another shit show is on its way.
