Hello, I'm new here and new to a Stinger (just bought a 2022 GT2). Is it completely necessary to get the active exhaust version for an aftermarket catback? I'd rather have all the sound all the time! Not to mention $2K for a catback is crazy! It's been a few years since I've had a car worthy of modding...damn prices have gone up!

Congrats on the 2022 GT2 :) I have a 2023 GT2. I did have the non valved borla on my initially but since the exhaust cut outs are shaped differently in the 2022+ models, you will likely need to have an exhaust shop redo the muffler tips to fit exhaust tips o n there. That's what I had done on mine.

It will cost less than the active version. I currently have the borla active on mine with exhaust tips but I am about to switch to the mbrp pro active and give it a go and see which one I will end up keeping. Yes you could say I have an exhaust obsession LOL.

I will say though that the valve really does make a difference in making the exhaust quieter and be more daily driver friendly. Plus living in california I don't want cops on my tail running it loud all the time haha. I do wish borla did a bit better job on the active version since it's basically the same exact design as the non valved and they just added the valve to the outter pipe. With MBRP pro active at least it's redesigned so I'll see how it goes. Are you located in the los angeles area by any chance? I might end up selling one bit later on and you could get the active version for cheaper.

These are the tips I use on the new borla active. They have to be oval shape to fill the empty area better. They are absolutely gorgeous.
If you want to buy tips I can provide the same tips they are on ebay here: Glossy Carbon AKRAPOVIC Exhaust Tip Universal Oval Tailpipe OD:105/115/150mm | eBay
Borla is 2.25 inlet 4.5 outlet
MBRP is 2.5 inlet 4.5 outlet

Thanks for all the info! I'm in Illinois, so that definitely won't work! A couple more questions, though. What did you do with the wiring for the valves? And did you have to make any modifications to the bumper for the new tips, short of removing the old ones?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
No problem

If you are going to use the non valved mbrp then you just need to zip tie away the connectors away from the muffler area so it doesn't get damaged and dirty. I used an apr wireless valve controller for a long time kinda to control the valves manually but just yesterday i reconnected the stock wiring back to the borla mufflers and put the other connectors away zip tied them. You won't get a check engine light if you wont use the stock wiring in these cars.

For the exhaust tips you will need to remove the stock exhaust rings. Honestly it's kinda shitty design but other manufacturers have done it before using fake exhaust rings. They are not too hard to remove but main reason is to be able to fit real exhaust tips on the mufflers to help the sound exit outside of the car. The problem with every catback muffler is that the tips are not long enough and the sound will just bounce back into the bumper thus causing drone. I initially tried an axle back muffler delete and holy hell i became deaf from drone due to the fake exhaust rings. Couldn't stand it for even 2 days.

But yeah other than removing the exhaust rings you will not have to do anything else. I tried 5 inch tips but problem is that they will likely rub and touch the sides. Might cause damage and send vibrations down.

can also confirm you can just tie up the old wiring and it won't cause any issues.
I did that with the JUN BL because it had it's own valve controllers
And no need to use a valved exhaust if you don't want it
