I have the 19" staggered setup with the 225 40 19 fronts and 255 35 19 rears. I got a deal on a set of blizzaks with all 4 at 225 40 19.
The dealer says putting 225s on the rear 8.5 inch wheel will stretch it too much and shrink the diameter, messing up the awd and Tcs.
Does anyone run a square setup like this?

Personally, I wouldn't worry. The difference in total overall diameter is 0.1" according to TR website; this number is still within range of the difference in tread wear difference between front and rear. If I were you, I would install these Blizzaks on a dedicated set of wheels.

Also, in my experience, I would bump the overall diameter by about an inch to maximize ground clearance.

Thank you. Yeah I figured it would already be 0.1" less, but they are saying with the stretching it would shrink the OD even more, causing issues. I visualize the tire flexing out without changing OD.

Typically when you look at the tire specs on TR they give you the width of the wheel they did the diameter measurement for. I with the wider wheel in the rear, they would be a bit stretched so the diameter would be a bit less. A “square” setup would mean the exact wheel and tire size, not just tires. It makes sense to get the correct size for each wheel.

Echoing what has already been said: Don't mess with tire sizes. Get tires to fit the rims. Wayne and I both use Nitto Motivo A/S UHP on our staggered rims. Winter tires need to be swapped out twice a year, so I decided against it. I like the OEM GT rims and couldn't stand the thought of putting something else on for winter (plus the added expense); or swapping expensive Pirelli winter tires in winter and back in the spring. So I am experimenting with the A/S option. So far, I think the Motivo's work great, and the price was right too.

I'm running 235/35/19 snows on own wheel. No issues.

Thanks guys, what I will end up doing is getting 255s for the rears in the same blizzak lm32 and sending the 2 225s back. Itll be a scary drive to work until the new ones arrive however, since I'm on the pilot 4s right now and temps hover at 25.

 You need to talk to @Gordo. He went through last winter on his Pilot summers. Had adventures, yes he did. It's good that you're not planning on doing that!

I’m still running summers on the front with all seasons on the rear @MerlintheMad . I haven’t had serious issues but I don’t drive he Stinger if there is over 3 inches of snow. Have another car for that. The snow melts almost as it comes down here in Utah and even when it doesn’t there is so much Dalt on the road it takes care of it. With RWD my car isn’t going to be thy great in the snow no matter what I do short of throwing on studded tires and I’m not about to do that. Just drive careful when the white stuff flies.

I didn't know that you still had summers on the front. You are a daring man. :P And it's a good thing you have a winter drive to fall back on.

Put a full set of snows on it and you can go just about anywhere. I had winters on my BMW 535 RWD and never had issues getting around.

Agreed. Winters all-round - plus some 2nd-tier wheels for schlepping around in winter. It will end up being cheaper, saving those nice OEM wheels and - especially if you have the staggered with expensive Pilot 4's- save rubber for summer/dry pavement when you can really enjoy them. My $0.02.

Not AWD but I put 225/45/18 Michelin xIce tires all around on my car with a dedicated set of winter wheels. Definitely should have gone wider in the rear as there is very little traction in the dry lol.

Looking at a set of 18x8.5 +35mm offset winter wheels now. With a wider rim than stock for front (8.5 inch is the same width for staggered rear), does anyone know if going with a wider tire will work on the front without rubbing? Stock is 225/40/19, stock rear is 255/35/19. Most are going with a 225/45/18 all around which I think will look too skinny on the rear. I was thinking of going with a 235/45/18 all around which, according to a tire size calculator, 0.3 inches taller, 0.4 inches wider in front, 0.7 inches skinnier in rear, 0.2 inches more in sidewall height, with rotations at 766 vs 775 stock (speedo will be slightly off). Other choice is the 225/45/18 which is as close to stock front 19" front wheels ( 1.1 inches skinnier than stock 19" rears). I'd like to keep the same size tire front and rear so I can rotate. Appreciate any feedback.
