I wonder ... since car makers do this less and less properly: is it worth getting some cans of fluidfilm & permafilm and giving the undercarriage plus a few of the accessible holes some good spraying to protect against rust? I drive it in winter, too.

I'd love to do this myself, because little mechanical projects are like a holiday off my brain/IT work all the time.

What I'm not sure about is: where on the stinger can you spray this stuff on? I know the idea is to not coat hot elements, like the whole exhaust system (or else it'll just smoke with the lanolin based fluid film). Same obviously goes for the braking pads/discs etc ... but that's about it. Otherwise, can it be sprayed pretty much anywhere down there?

And I how difficult is it to get the wheel house inside protection out? I mean the plastic layer thing along the bare metal of a wheel house, without having to take off anything there (springs, dampers etc) apart from the wheels themselves? I'd have to do that to get to the blank metal to clean it and then put the protection films on.
