I live in Belleville. I live in a condo on Front St. in Belleville and every night there's some tool in a 4 cylinder shitbox who thinks it's cool to speed up and then let off the gas so the exhaust sound echoes and rattles between the buildings. It's noisy as f*ck and if I owned a long gun I swear I'd shoot them. I really don't think if you have a cat back Borla or another exhaust system installed that isn't that noisy and you don't drive like an a**hole you'll be fine. If they pass any bylaw it would have to be above a certain decibel level to be illegal I would think. My brother had his 2011 Camaro supercharged with an aftermarket exhaust and when he would start it, it would rattle the windows of the house next door and they called the cops and the cops came and had him start his car and they said it was okay so I don't believe all modified exhaust systems would be illegal.

It's always the folks that take it too far that cause legislation like this. As much as I can't stand politicians it is a response to bad actors, as most laws are.

Ontario already has exhaust laws. If the local force isn't upholding these they wont uphold new ones either. Maybe Belleville should be taking a look inside instead of asking the provincial government for help.

My civic buddy got plenty of noise tickets for his exhaust back in the 00's in Woodstock.

Every motor vehicle or motor assisted bicycle shall be equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise

Its probably because of the stupid new "pop and bang" tunes everyone is getting. I hear them constantly downtown in my city.
