Its for rock protection , do not remove , the vents funnel debris directly towards that spot !!I am suppose to remove this plastic or does it have a purpose? I was going out to wash my car and noticed it.
I forget the post, but someone suggested putting stainless mesh in the openings behind the front wheels that feed the side air curtain vents to prevent rocks and larger debris from going down the side of the car.Its for rock protection , do not remove , the vents funnel debris directly towards that spot !!
I bought some stainless mesh and cut to size and inserted them in the duct opening , seems to be working well ................I believe it was AV8R that had the original idea.................I forget the post, but someone suggested putting stainless mesh in the openings behind the front wheels that feed the side air curtain vents to prevent rocks and larger debris from going down the side of the car.
You could give that a try if you decide to take the PPF off.
Don't remove the PPF patches, regardless. I'm sure one of the reasons why they are there is to protect against debris flipped up by the front tires. The front flare of the rocker panels is not quite positioned to prevent every instance of the front wheel drive from spitting gravel. RWD? I think it unlikely, under legal speeds, that the front tires would eject gravel backwards with enough force to reach the rear fender flare. But at higher (spirited) speeds it is probably going to happen over time. So the three PPF patches are there to protect against damage when "hooning".I forget the post, but someone suggested putting stainless mesh in the openings behind the front wheels that feed the side air curtain vents to prevent rocks and larger debris from going down the side of the car.

Here's what the vent screens look like , easy to do ! View attachment 35338
Nobody in North America , our long lost member AV8R from Australia was making and selling them . But honestly I made mine for $5.00 in 20 mins , just trace a template and cut out the mesh with tin shears , loosen the pins around the cowling , slip it into place then push the pins back in ............Does someone make the screens or is something have to fabricate ourself?
Yes I got mine from AV8R. They look pretty neat. It's almost an oversight by Kia not putting them in.Here's what the vent screens look like , easy to do ! View attachment 35338
