Hello everyone! I've been experiencing this problem for months now. The parking brake is supposed to be released automatically when shifting to reverse or drive, am I right? On my car, sometimes it releases the parking brake automatically and sometimes it doesn't. It mostly doesn't release it automatically after turning on the car and shifting to drive or reverse but also happens sometimes while the car is turned on.

The problem is that I took it to the closest Kia service center and they checked for error codes or whatever they do and they couldn't find anything. They even showed me the tablet and the device they plug into the car so that I believe them. They told me there are no issues with the car whatsoever. I tried replicating the problem with the technician with me in the car but it never happened in front of him as this issue happens after leaving the parking brake on for long periods of time, mostly.

They told me they couldn't do anything to help me because their "device" isn't showing any errors on the car, so I'm stuck with this annoying issue until now. I'm wondering if anybody else experienced something similar? My Stinger is just a little over 6 months old.

I had it happen once, but that was because I put the car in gear immediately after it started. Confused me for a second. Just have to wait 1/2 second after it starts before putting it in gear.

@Joseph Spiegel made a thread on this a month or two ago. The conclusion is that it's not a real problem, since you can push the brake and then the EPB button and manually release the EPB. You could just get used to doing this anyway and not rely on it automatically releasing itself in "P" or "D" (we all did this "old school" parking brake release thing on all our cars within recent memory: the Stinger still "knows how":P). And as @eflyguy said, don't ever be in a hurry on startup: just wait a few seconds before shifting to go.

Had it happen to me a couple of times. Bit annoying but not sure whether it's actually a problem.

It hasn’t happened again for awhile, now. Maybe just an anomaly.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

I think I figured out what’s causing the problem but I’m not 100% sure. This problem happens if you shift to D or R when pressing the brake lightly. I tried firmly braking whenever I switch and it never happened again but I’m still not sure about this.

Yep. I've been firmly braking when shifting and it never happened again. So this is confirmed by me.

It happened again yesterday but I forgot to try and film it as it’s been awhile.
