I can't believe my stinger is 14 months old and already is rusting. I live in Minnesota and sometimes it's outside during the winter, but I've had other cars that were outside all the time for multiple winters and didn't see rust like this. What can I do? PXL_20230419_204215479.webp

The collision caused that rust.

Looks like you had a minor collision, and the paint was damaged, which lead to inadequate protection of the steel underneath.

Only option is to remove the rust, and add paint.

holy crap that's nasty. tell us more about that impact. your taillight lens is chipped too. warranty won't help you in this case. even though you are well within the 36 months period.

whoa! that means you were sideswiped in a parking lot situation. but your picture reveals all. @D.J. has really sharp eyes. I doubt I'd have seen it if he hadn't said something. Ima surprised that you didn't notice before this rust. it takes quite a while for rust that big to show up like that.

now that we can see the scrapes there are not unseeable. but from the looks of it they could be only clearcoat and would rub and polish out, hopefully. the rust though that's going to take a body shop unless you are super handy with paint repair. the whole quarter panel will have to come off and you might as well get the bumper cover done at the same time. the taillight is going to cost you. maybe this is enough to get your insurance involved. I would definitely reach to them on this one you never know.

but in the meantime, try the buffing on the scrapes, get the rust off yourself, and use a touchup kit. the good thing is that this is very limited to hear the edges so that a good touchup will hardly be noticeable. you will notice because you know it's there. but probably walking up to the car it won't grab your attention once the rust is gone and fresh paint is on. you can smooth it down and add clear coat or a good layering of wax or similar to make it match the surrounding gloss.

I actually believe rust like that can appear extremely quickly, once the paint is compromised.

Sucks, especially if the car was parked and suffered from a hit without owners knowledge.

Truly bad luck, and really sucks that someone would hit and run like that.

your probably right about 'quickly' during the winter we've all just had.

I'd say that damage has been there a while.

Wonder if insurance will raise flags for claim being made some time after the damage.

I'd go with 'quickly' since the car is parked outside and this was just barely noticed. what insurance agent could believe that a stinger enthusiast wouldn't notice this pretty soon after it happened? if you come up on your ride from the driver's side most of the time it could be days before you approach the damage and see it.

I suppose.

During the summer I hand was the car at least every 2-3 weeks. This is the time to get intimate with various scratches and other blemishes.

I thought the same thing.
You can file a police report too. If you go insurance route. It has helped me in the past for this type of thing.

I"m very offended by any scratches on my stinger, but to each his own

Turns out I had let my ex wife use the car and she admitted that she had skid on the ice and hit a street sign a couple weeks ago. Said she didn't tell me because she didn't see any damage.

Mystery solved...

And knowing is half the battle.

Fortunately, my wife would never want to drive my Stinger.

Gotta love MN and ex wives!
