Paint Issue

Hey whats up guys. I know these cars have a lot of paint issues. Washing my car today i noticed this right under my driver side headlight. Car has 2600 miles and 2 months old.


Little hard to see as I finished up when it got dark, but I'm assuming the whole bumper would need to be resprayed for this correct? Would it be covered under warranty if any of you have experienced something similar

That is what is referred to as the "Headlight rub", though it is not from rubbing from what I understand. Most MY2018's had it that I saw, including mine. I opted not to fix it as I have the Micro Blue, and it is really hard to see unless you go looking for it. On your SWP, it may stick out a bit more. I would hit the dealership up where you bought your Stinger and see what they say, then go from there.

Back when this was a "hot issue", I checked out all the Stingers on dealer lots in my area when I drove around, and half of them had this problem.

Mine, thankfully, did not - but it never made it onto a dealer lot, either!

I'm pretty sure it's the bumper fitment in relation to the headlight, it's simply too tight. When my car was hit, they had to replace the bumper and fender. I found that the replaced bumper was much better for the "headlight rub" than the original bumper on the car, but I say the installation of the new bumper still caused a small paint "chip" under the headlight. It probably just gets scraped against the headlight when being installed, and since that is the edge of the bumper, it peels up the paint, or so I figure.

While on one hand I would call it a flawed design, on the flipside, think of all the critical reviewers looking for "panel gaps" as a sign of quality on a new vehicle. Kia did a pretty good job eliminating panel gaps between the headlight and bumper, but then this happens lol. Just can't win.

It's a design flaw. The headlight assembly is secured back in the steel fender, and extends out and curves in and forward in the bumper cover . You know that there has to be vibration clear out as far as that lower, forward corner of the headlight assembly. If the bumper cover swells in hot sun they are going to touch. If there is no adhesion issue with the paint on the bumper cover (rare enough) then the only damage done is directly where the bumper cover and corner of the headlight assembly touch. It's not as if the paint is going to peel away and leave a big patch of primer coat. I saw ONE vehicle out of 16 that had what I just described: the chips, under both headlights, had started to raise the paint and it was peeling up and away. Looked like S**T. But that was the only one like that I've seen. Altogether, five of the 16 had this issue; and four only had it under the driver's side headlight assembly.

That sucks. I know its not big, but it just annoys me. I've had cheaper new cars with batter paint jobs.
