Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and just picked up my Stinger GT limited yesterday. I was looking into doing badge delete/removal from the car and I noticed that the stinger emblem had some paints flaking off the edges in the lettering. Has anyone experienced this? I'm scared to remove the emblem and see the paint come off with it, and if so the dealership probably would blame me for it. Please see photo attached and advise, thanks guys!

There is no way that removing a taped on badge or emblem should have properly adhering paint come up with it. Individual cars (mostly Yellows and Micro Blues) have paint quality issues. The paint is very good, but it has an adhering problem: mostly from cars made in 11/17 and 12/17. Kia is opening warranty claim cases on individual cars (other than Yellow, which is all cars in that color).

If I were going to remove the Stinger emblem and the paint looked like it will come up, I would go to my dealer first and show them the issue around the emblem. See what they say. Go from there. You can open your own case with Kia Customer Service. Being a Stinger, your case will be upgraded to their "premium customer service" tier. This will in all likelihood play out over months in order for your paint warranty to be fully honored to your satisfaction. But Kia is good for it. There are plenty of discussions on this forum about the vexing paint issues. Since you apparently have one yourself, you can get advice and news on how those cases are going.

What’s your build date?

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I'll contact the sales manager and see what they say. Hopefully it's just excess paint but it does look like the paint is flaking or that the emblem was put on before the paint dried. Either way, I'll see what they say first and update the forum in case anyone else had a similar issue. I appreciate the help!

It also looks like excessive tape from the rear of the badge.
If it has to be removed, let the dealer do it & repair it then if it was your intention to get badge delete/removal it will be done professionally & covered by warranty, win, win in my book.

There is a really good thread on the forum with many people removeing paint along with the badge. It can be done but need to be extra careful with the Stinger paint.

Again, these paint-coming-off cases with badge/emblem removal are only on the rare, individual cars that have paint adhering issues: there is nothing wrong with the Stinger's paint as such, it is high quality. If your paint is adhering you won't risk it flaking/chipping off when you remove the badges. I do like the recommendation that you let the dealer do it, if you are in any doubt on this.

This seems like very dangerous advice. May want to reread the badge thread and ask some impacted if they also had other paint issues.

I remember the thread. The general impression I took away was that paint coming off with badge removal was on cars that had other paint issues, some of which were only noticed because of the paint coming off during badge removal and going looking for them.

The paint around my car is in otherwise great condition, I think my build date of May 2018 is no longer related to the cases in the other threads, however to be on the safe side, I'll still consult the dealer and see what they can do about the stinger badge issue.

Hi Guys So I rebadged the Stinger bout ten days ago with the E Started at the back....got the badge off...no biggie...the car and adhesive was so new it was still soft.....and guess what? AsI picked at the last bit ofadhesive the paint came off with my fingernail...all the way down to the white color.....its under the badge so no big deal....but ive never seen paint so uncured.....on the front badge I left a very small top layer of adhesive and stuck on the new E.....much better.....no stress no wiping fresh paint with goo gone too much...just a tad of it...so by doing that you would think its a half azz job I did ...nope everything is fine...you dont have to get every bit of adhesive off...it will meld into the new adhesive just fine Washkkkkia 003.webp

I like the way the badge sits off the car about a half an inch...the E has a 3d effect......lol

oh dang, what build date was your car? I never really heard many issues with the red paint.

I think you either have chippy paint with the 2017 builds or peely paint with the 2018 builds. They changed the paint mix to stop chipping and created peeling. Aside from the head light rub the action to start the peel seems fairly rare. I'd take the peel over the chip i guess.

Open the hood and look up towards the front there might be a silver sticker.

The build date is on the sticker on the driver's door B pillar.

Hello everyone, I just wanted to provide an update. The folks at Kia has agreed to warranty the paint damage from the emblem. See photo after badge removal:20181011_162536.webp

They have deemed it a fault from Kia's factory, most likely due to the fact that the badge was put on before the paint cured. Just in case anyone has this issue, keep fighting with your dealer as this should not happen on any new car.

Hope this helps with anyone who has a similar issue!
