OK so I keep getting this error on my 2021 Kia stinger GT1. I can clear it and it will go away for a a day or so but has been returning regularly. My actual thermostat gauge is always normal, and from what I have read we have an electronic thermostat. I am just curious if anyone is familiar with this code and or any easy fixes, before I have it taken into dealer? My car is quite modified so I try to keep it out of the dealer for dumb stuff. I have checked my coolant, and its where it needs to be, and my car has about 22k miles on it.

weird thing is when the code is present, car will shift up to 8th gear at 55mph really fast, faster then eco mode lol, but when code is not present or after you clear it, youll be in like 5th gear at 55mph. Only drivability difference I have noticed.

I have same problem with me P0597 and P0599 i go to garage tuesday to fix that hope its not a big problem ...

let me know what it ends up being, in older cars ive changed a thermostat so many times, but the stingers is electric, I checked the fuses and topped off and tried to let air bubbles out, but temps show completely normal, so if it wasnt functioning, it wouldnt be.

I went to garage to garage to fix the problem ... as i installed jb4 to fix the damn overboost problem they dont want to warranty the car anymore hahah what a joke so i cant say whats the fix

It's really just electric assisted.

It's a standard wax filled thermostat with an extra heater to allow the computer to open the thermostat on demand, before reaching temperature thresholds.

so I know this sounds horrible, but i have gotten in the habbit of putting car in accessory, connecting to JB4, clearing codes, then starting the car. I do this every time I get in my car, and its anoying, but the code never comes on while driving. It only comes on when you start the car. Most of the time, only if you start the car cold start, ive gone to the store ran inside, come back out and started the car normally, and get no code quite often. Also as stated no drivability issues and temp gauge and water temp all seam to be 100% normal.

to save myself some trouble I may try to replace it, i found the part pretty cheap, and pretty mechanically inclined, just thought I would see if anyone else had a similar issue, before I ran off to do it on my own :D

Curious what the outcome of your visit to the doctors office?

Brought mine back today as the part was in and they told me it would be an all day fix and there wouldn’t be enough time (it was noon) because the thermostat was behind the engine bay and that they had never done this before on a stinger. ‍Ooh boy!

Resurrecting this older thread. My 2020 Stinger with 38k miles had a thermostat error code. Car was driving in limp mode, way down on power compared to normal and was shifting to 8th gear at 55mph, as noted above.

They have had my car for a day and a half so far, I should get it back tomorrow morning, we will see. Covered under warranty. I have catback and midpipe, but engine is pretty much stock aside from the K&N air filters.

The service rep who called said they worked on my car all day today? Could be lying, seems like it was only a 3 hour job? dunno.

I will just say that when they serviced mine, they broke other shit while they were fixing the thermostat. Ended up being there for two months while they waited for warranty instructions from corporate and parts. Warranty work can be frustrating with Kia

I forgot to mention that I have had a reoccurring turbo code issue ever since they replaced the thermostat. (P0045 code). The first time I got the code in Sept after the service, I cleared it and it didn’t come back until a week ago and when I clear with the code now it comes back. I believe when they replaced the thermostat they did not connect/seat that wiring well enough or it was damaged. I’m bringing it back. The master tech said it was a bitch to get to. Good luck to you.

I just had the dealer replace the electronic thermostat (also referenced as the electronic coolant thermostat in the paperwork) in my 2022 GT2. My check engine light went on/off for a couple of weeks before I could get it in to the shop. I had a buddy with an OB reader check the codes so I knew it wasn't anything super serious. The only drivability difference was what OP referenced below; the car seemed to upshift ASAP regardless of drive mode. Like a super aggressive ECO mode. Something interesting was that I was driving in Sport when the check engine light turned on, and it totally disengaged Sport mode. It still showed that I was in Sport (and I think the valved exhaust stayed open) but everything reverted to normal.

The engine light codes came back as P2181 and P0597. The dealership covered it under warranty (I don't have any mods) and it was a harmless process. They had to overnight the part, and said it would take a couple hours to do. I attached a picture of the service details.
