5.7 Richter at c. 7:10 AM. And I was half asleep, and thought I must have dreamed an earthquake when I sat up and looked around and didn't see a single loose object out of place. But when I came to my computer desk and saw a couple of things toppled and a few books at one end shifted a couple of inches out of place, well, I recanted on my theory of having dreamed it.

Just now, a bigger trembler than what I felt this morning just hit. But probably it's "bigger" because I am aware, being not half asleep. :P My wife felt the whole house this morning, so disagrees that this one is bigger. I was rolling in bed this morning and it definitely lasted longer; but there is that dreamlike quality to the memory, so, I can't say. If this one was bigger, then the epicenter must be pushing 6.0 Richter.

My son just texted and also said this one was not nearly as big as the Seven A.M. one. Daughter-in-law (further north) also said "not as big just now." That's good, to be shown wrong in my original assertion. :D

Horrible timing for the power outages associated with this. Hope they get the grid back up quickly.

Are earthquakes common in that part of the world Merlin?

Not bigger ones like this, this is the biggest since '92 but Utah is overdue for a big one. The valley was also the location of a really old, huge lake so the valley floor is subject to liquefaction, it won't be good when it does happen.

The quake woke me up too, at first I thought I was just dreaming but then I realized I wasn't. When it finished I ran and grabbed my dogs and made sure they were safe. Then I went out to the garage to check on the Stinger, luckily nothing fell on it. No serious damage at my house, some things that were precariously placed that I warned my wife about fell and broke, also appears we got a new crack in the garage floor, but other than that nothing serious. The big aftershock was about a 4.6, nothing to sneeze at.

I like how you checked on your dogs, then the Stinger but never mentioned the wife. I would of checked the Stinger first.

My god, viruses, earthquakes, it must really seem like the end of the world in Utah at the moment.

I told her I ran for the dogs first and she was pleased with me for doing that haha.

Not to most, I suspect. "The Big One" is yet in our future; but with tremblers that lessens the chances of a really bad earthquake. Today's adventures top anything I've experienced in over 65 years living here: I don't remember anytime, anywhere, that I felt half a dozen earthquakes in less than half a day. :P And corona virus is just simply overblown. We've had corona viruses twice before in this century. People didn't freak out and socially isolate then; they weren't very life threatening; and everybody pretty much ignored them. Not this time, though. Earthquakes are an empirical reality that you cannot ignore: it's impossible to mistake a house around you creaking, groaning and vibrating, and your stuff starting to tip over and fall down, etc. You sit there assessing, wondering second by second if the intensity is going to increase or diminish. A virus pandemic that doesn't live up to Stephen King proportions is nothing to compare!

Certainly agree on your comments about the Corona virus. Overblown big time.
