Hello all I’m on the fence decided to join and ask questions. I’ve owned a charger srt8 and looking at a 19’ stinger GT and Scat Pack. The Kia is pulling me in however I do have some reservations as it’s resale value is not good. Seems the Kia has a nicer quality interior with a more class almost up to BMW or Mercedes quality. Performance wise I find the Kia a little better it’s hard to compare the 2 on performance. They are so different in feel while the charger has the muscle car rumble and kick. The Kia is sneaky fast quiet and more refined ‍♂️. The prices are pretty similar new 19’ scat pack plus got them down to 37,895 and GT1 around same price. Again I’m on the fence looking at the dollar figures the Stinger plain does not hold its value.

I think you are incorrect. The SRT Chargers don't hold their value.

I've went hunting through the auctions. I just got a bid to purchase my 2018 GT2 AWD with 24,702 miles of $38,700. My original purchase price was $43,600 after rebates and MSRP was $52k. 74.4% of MSRP. 88.7% of PP.

MMR (Manheim Market Report) average value for 2018 SRT 392 Chargers and R/T Scat Pack's with 10,000 - 16,000 miles is running between $32,000 and $34,000.

One specific SRT 392 Charger with 23,585 miles has an MMR of $31,000 and a buy-it-now price of $34,000. I chose it because it is the same year and close to the same miles. MSRP was $53k. 64% of MSRP.

There is one 2018 R/T Scat Pack with a condition rating of 4.9 out of 5. It has 11,213 miles on it and the MMR is $29,600.

I loved my 2015 B5 Blue SRT 392 Charger, however, the Stinger is a much nicer car with a much better warranty and they are holding their value better.

I hope this helps.

I see Chargers & Scat Packs all over the place. I very rarely see a Stinger. History will tell you that something everyone has will not hold value like something few people have. Not to mention the Stinger made Hagertys list for potential collector cars.

Honestly, drive both and decide what you will be happier in. Buying a car based specifically on resell value, but one you will not enjoy as the other option, may not be worth the money saved or resell value. Life is short and if you can afford it, get what you want.

That's why I'm getting a used something with a roof that goes down next year. Too much "will buy later" and I'm not getting any younger...plus I still have hair, so I better get on it!

On my daily commute from southern Maryland to DC, I see at least 10-15 chargers each way. I’ve seen maybe 15 “stingers in the wild” over the last year, so I agree fully!

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I'll share my completely biased view on this as I looked at both options. Went to the Portland Auto Show this past February where I ultimately decided on the Stinger and here's why:
  • The interior of the Dodge, like all their cars, is just awful (wife has a Journey as a company car and it's THE WORST)
  • Like having the utility of the hatch
  • It looks cool
  • Didn't want to be associated with the folks looking at/buying a Dodge (at least at the auto show there was a decidedly "NASCAR-ish" crowd)
  • It's fairly unique

No way I'd trade, but the exhaust on the Charger sure does sound good. Would be sweet to be able to toggle that sound on/off on the Stinger!

I was thinking a V8 would sound good in the Stinger. I said I wouldn't be buying another brand new car ever again, but if Genesis puts out a G70 based coupe...and tosses in their V8....might change my mind.

Your right after looking closer I agree. The Stinger is different don’t see many at all and the fit and finish is better. I’m leaning more towards it for sure need to go test drive one this weekend.

I've never considered resale value as a factor in any car I've ever bought. If I like the car and it meets my requirements for the foreseeable future, I plan to maintain it and keep as long as it is reliable and doesn't nickel-and-dime me to death. I typically put over 100,000 miles on my cars, so there's not much value left anyway.

It's all personal preference. I have not owned a Charger so take this for what it's worth. I'm a US V8 muscle car fan. Those big-ass Chargers are awesome. But stop-light-to-stop-light muscle was not what I wanted. The Stinger is a true Grand Turismo. It does everything well. Want to drive it like you stole it? It's crazy good. I use it as a D/D, and it's fun every time I drive it to/from work. Want to put all your gear in the car and cruise for a weekend trip... man it's the best. Looong legs on the freeway, and total comfort and luxury plus great tech all the way. I drive a lot of miles - 45000 since 5/18. No major issues. No creaks/squeaks. I still love it.

It doesn't bother me about resale value either. We have never changed over cars frequently at all.
Until we got our first Kia ( Optima platinum ) we never owned brand new cars, always second hand.If they prove reliable and good cars we keep them for as long as possible. Our Ford Falcon had done over 300,000 kms when it went, hardly worth anything but it still had a sound engine.
I love my Stinger, it is the best and most fun car I have owned. I like the fact it is unique and not every " Joe Blow " has one. Due to this fact it gathers a lot of attention on the road but I'm used to people gawking at her now.
I intend to keep Sonic for a long time.:)

about 7 years ago I told myself I would never buy a new car again. The stinger came out, checked all the boxes of what I needed in a car (fun, fast, practical DD), and dammit I bought a new car! I crossed shopped it with several cars from Charger to BMW 4GC to GS350 to the S7 (all used)...still came back to the stinger...stupid car! LOL

How'd the test drive go?

Same. You're buying an inherently depreciating asset, not an investment. Pay it off, take good care of it, and enjoy it. You're paying for a 10 year warranty, might as well put it to good use. Hey, you may get lucky and own a collectors item but you can't go into it with the mindset of making your money back.
